That was the most pathetic exhibit of backpeddling I have ever seen.

Uh hello?!? Are we just not all there today?

My point was you have no contacts in the band..I DO.

Well when you are out there telling the world how clean and sober you are, it comes off a bit hypocritical..

But then again, Tommy is certainly no stranger to hypocrissy...

OMG!!! I think Dennis once smoked pot and had a taste of some alcohol sometime in 1971! I can't ever listen to anything that man has to say ever again, he is such a bad person for ever doing that. And to even imagine that Dennis ever did something wrong in his life...oh my gosh...I don't know if I could handle that. And Rajah, I am so sorry for having to even type the word pot or alchohol...oh oh my...I will not bow my head in shame.

You don't know squat about Tommy and his personal life. Leave him alone.

The denseness here amazes me...You don't even get my point. It has nothing to do with DeYoung at all...

Its about TS's hypocrissy - Its one thing to tell the world you are clean and sober and another to really be that way...

Your point being that you can make false statements about someone? I was making a statement as stupid as yours was. I can't believe anyone has time to sit around and make up shit about a person they know nothing about on a personal level.

Look, it's no secret that Tommy (ahem) dabbled with substances in years past. Let's get that out of the way.

Is Tommy clean and sober now? I honestly don't know. I certainly can say he does not have the destructive tendencies which led him to do things like break his arm/hand, cancelling dates of the KWH tour. He was definitely clean through all of the DY years. I interviewed him for Don't Tread and he was forthcoming about that stuff.

To the original poster, "Snowblind" isn't about the weather kind of snow. So it's clear to me at least by PT, drugs were some sort of problem in the band. Also see the Behind the Music. These guys were no angels even if DDY was clean (which by all accounts I've read and heard, he was straight as an arrow when it came to substances in those days). It was the lifestyle, whether it was Styx or any other band.

To gr8dane's post, it is a big deal IF he gets stoned and claims he's sober and has been since (insert date here). I don't see any evidence in the times I've seen Styx in the past few years he is using drugs of any sort again. Is it possible? Yes. Anything is possible.

I don't think rumors like this are particularly healthy. If it's true, it would be sad that he "fell off the wagon", but that's his business. As a fan, I'm more concerned that Styx has released two disappointing albums in a row (BBT and OWE) than I am if Tommy toked up.

100% up on the dirt.

Then again, some of us just like to pretend not to be in order to start sh*t.

I actually heard that Uncle Ted REALLY helped Tommy clean up his act. He had gone through rehab once or twice, but it was with Ted(Damn Yankees) that really was the turning point of him kicking his party habits.

Is that true??????

Either way I personally could give a rats ass!!!

Tommy got clean for Ambition. IIRC he said it was the 1st album he did sober. I haven't listened to my interview with him in quite some time.

I would think that Ted helped him stay on the straight and narrow. Ted wouldn't put up with that shit. It's not in his personality.

Tommy Shaw wrote:"I've kinda' grown up in rock and roll. Recently, I came up to my studio and got all of my CDs of everything that I've ever recorded on a major record label, and I just went through it and I did an anthology and put all of it on cassette," said Shaw. "And I just sat back and took a look at my work and I really watched my life go from this naive 23 year old who was really very immature, because I could be, and very innocent. I went from there to this grizzled, dope smokin', whiskey drinkin', coke snortin', wild, chick fuckin' wild man up to the middle. Then I started coming to my senses, and a few years ago I gave up all that stuff, and all of a sudden the smoke settled. It's like, G-d, I have all this experience, and now I'm starting to write. So it's been a real journey," related Shaw. "I've been very fortunate. None of that stuff killed me. I wouldn't suggest anybody going through it, 'cause it sucked. But since it didn't kill me, I feel like I'm on this quest now to make up for a little bit of lost time," he said.
