Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.... Boston is the band that got me playing guitar and before I got into Journey this was my favorite band. That 1st album got worn out many times and still is just as powerfull today. Song writing and production on that 1st album was 10 years ahead of its time. Listen to it. Brad Delp was the fucking man. My favorite singer 2nd only to Perry. So fucking sadded by this news. The guy was a health nut for crying out loud which just goes to show that no matter what you do when its your time to go.... Fuck this sucks.

I feel for his family and friends big time as it was obvious that this guy was a genuine gentleman and cared greatly about our planet from the charities that he was invovled in over the years.

The Boston catalogue is going to get a major shot in the arm now at the registers.

Just saw this and it really sucks. Dude was one of the only singers on the radio, during those times, that could come close to the Perry highs. Watching the bandmembers of my era drop off one by one is a real wakeup call. Carpe diem, people! (SP are ya listening?)
Brad Delp, RIP. You were awesome and won't be forgotten.

Wow...just, wow.

I graduated from high school in 1976, and the Boston album was basically THE soundtrack to my wild, incredible, partyin' summer that year.

Like others have already noted, the man's voice was astonishing, unquestionably deserving of being ranked right up there at the very top with a certain Mr. Perry, when it comes to all-time best classic melodic rock singers.

As a journalist, I had the great pleasure of meeting Brad, along with my then-young son, at our local county fair when RTZ appeared on the grandstand stage back in the 90's. We got there quite early, watched soundcheck, and then got to hang with Brad, Barry, and the rest of the band for over an hour before the show. Brad's warmth, humor, and special attention to my son Jeremy were great, a memory I'll carry with me forever. Alongside more "contemporary" artists like Tool, Incubus, and Green Day, that RTZ CD is STILL in heavy-rotation in my son's collection, and he was deeply saddened when I told him of this news earlier today.

Interestingly, Barry happened to drop and badly damage one of his favorite guitars that afternoon, an instrument which he played prominently on the debut Boston LP. I was impressed that, despite his anguish over that, he still made a point to visit with my son and I along with Brad.

Ironically, I had just yesterday noticed that tickets were slated to go on sale a week from today for a June Boston show at one of our local casinos. Surely the band will pause to regroup at this point...

Don't know what else to say except for RIP, Brad...we'll miss ya...

Where do they go from here? Is Cosmo still with the band and if so can he handle all the lead singing duties?

No, he is no longer in the band.

I think this spells the end for Boston...

This is like a knife in the heart. One of the few Vocalist who was as equally humble as he was talented. Didnt care about money, or fame. Seen them 3 times and he wasjust incredible. man is he going to be missed.

Would this have been any easier if there had been some warning? Only those close to him know how he was feeling lately. Maybe he wasn't feeling well for a few days, maybe he was doing great and this was sudden to everyone.
I was just thinking today, would this have been any easier if it wasn't just so sudden to all of us.
For me, I don't think so because bottom line, he still would have been gone way too soon.

Hitch A Ride

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsAYjVe8lwA

Day is night in New York City
Smoke, like water, runs inside
Steel idle trees to pity
Every living things that's died

Gonna hitch a ride
Head for the other side
Leave it all behind
Never change my mind
Gonna sail away
Sun lights another day
Freedom on my mind
Carry me away for the last time
Oh yeah

Life is like the coldest winter
People freeze the tears I cry
Words of hail their minds are into
I've got to crack this ice and fly

Gonna hitch a ride
Head for the other side
Leave it all behind
Never change my mind
Gonna sail away
Sun lights another day
Freedom on my mind
Carry me away for the last time
Oh yeah

Gonna hitch a ride
Head for the other side
Leave it all behind
Never change my mind
Gonna sail away
Sun lights another day
Freedom on my mind
Carry me away for the last time
Oh yeah

My Brad story from tonight:
(CROSS POSTED FROM MY BLOG)

I went to a surprise 40th birthday party tonight for my friend, Theresa.

I didn't know a soul there besides her, but I make friends pretty quickly, and I ended up spending most of the night talking to some guy (Dan? Don? Dave?) about music. I had my Zune and we were having an absolute BALL going through and talking about songs and genres and AOR. I told him how I was so exited to be getting into this entire WORLD of existing music that I previously didn't know existed. Considering music of the 90s and 00s is crappola, it's so nice that I can discover all this stuff one song and one album at a time now. "D" was born in 1958, and he told me his absolute hands-down favourite band was Boston. He remembers his very first car and his very first job and the FIRST 8-track he put in that deck was Boston. It was 1976.

His face lit up as he was telling me the story.

I told him that Brad had died yesterday, and he hadn't heard. He was floored. Just floored. We had a moment. I don't know how you describe this feeling in a society that thinks Lady Di or Anna Nicole Smith or someone like that dying is sad news.

Music is MY SOUL. I can think of nothing that has the power to bring me up or turn my world around like music. My blogger friend, Nicki, wrote an entry just the other day along these lines. There are certain bands that are just IN OUR SOULS. And Boston was certainly in this guy's soul. This guy looked like his best friend just died when I told him.

I'm tearing up just thinking about it. And I've got "Amanda" on right now, which is making it more poignant.

The guy was a vocal stud, no doubt. Amazing how a voice can bring so much joy to so many people, even after it is gone.

Boston did get some money from me this morning. I found their first album on cd at Wal-Mart. I didn't have it on cd, so I bought it.

Looking at the inside of the case, it is a remaster I bought, the work being done by Tom.

No autopsy is planned, but toxocology tests are going to be performed.

Thanks.
Hasn't made the news here really.
If I hadn't got internet access, I wouldn't have known until the next edition of Classic Rock comes out in April! I'm assuming they'll do a fitting obituary.

At our gig last night we worked with a DJ, and he played 'More Than A Feeling' for me.
It was good to hear it again.
I don't have it on CD either, and I don't play my old vinyl any more.

That line, "see my Mary Ann walking awa-ay!" And the key changes from high to REALLY HIGH on 'away' - wow. It's breathtaking!

Thanks CRL. :)

Donations to a Heart association, I see.
Maybe it was a heart attack after all.

Untimely death is always hard to take, but when it's a suicide, it's harder to take IMO.
