Monker,

I read just before the release of the cd that the difference between the import and the US version is an extra song. I'm sure I read that it was a song by "Bread", but can not for the life of me remember where I read it.

Over the weekend, VH1 Classic showed a Damn Yankees concert (which was phenomenal). There is definitely musical magic with Shaw/Blades.

Peace~

If I am not mistaken, this is that concert being released on DVD.

March 10, 2007

The Damn Yankees video "Uprising", which was originally released and certified platinum on VHS in 1992, is now available on DVD for the first time. "Uprising" features the band at its peak in a live concert filmed at the Rocky Mountain Jam in Denver, Colorado. It is the only video footage available documenting this brief but popular union of rock superstars. The DVD includes behind-the-scenes rehearsal and recording sessions, plus exclusive backstage footage and interviews with the band.

Forgive me for getting this thread back on track, but I got the new Shaw/Blades CD last night and I love it. They do stay faithful to some of the tracks and they make others their own. I was blown away by the guitar work on the CD, especially in "Lucky Man" where the keyboard solo of the original is replaced by Tommy's guitar work. Fantastic!. It's just a fun CD to listen to, as it is my understanding that it was a fun CD for them to make and it shows.

Here's a wild thought - forget about all the ongoing Styx BS and listen to the CD. Don't be a critic, a DeYoungian or anyone with an agenda. Try going back to the feeling of being a teenager when all you knew was that you loved Rock N Roll Music, your laying out by the pool (Before you had to worry about how much SPF you have on) people are talking and cutting up and the radio is blairing out your favorite radio station. The sun is hot, ("You better turn or you'll burn"), your best girl/guy just showed up and all is right with the world. Now listen to the CD.

There now, don't you feel better?
This is one CD that will have a regular spin in my CD player all summer, along with some Beach Boys, Beatles, Van Halen, Georgia Satalites, ELO, REO, and the song "Wild Fire" (I love that song) plus whatever else that feels like summer.

Enjoy yourself - lifes too short

Go on tour and promote Tommy Shaw
He could open for anyone and do an hour set
Here is the setlist

The Ocean
On My Way
Tell Me How Should I Feel
Just Get Through This Night
Somewhere In The Night
A Place To Call My Own
Girls With Guns
Bllue Collar Man
That's all in how you say it
High Enough
Lonely School
The Silence Is Broken
Renegade,

Tommy Shaw is a follower
He is taking the easy road and just collecting pay checks
No balls at all.

Get off the copycat road and sing your own songs
There all great songs

No offense to Journey fans, but at least he's not Steve Perry who called it a day and whatever shape his voice is in, the fans will never hear it.

His voice is fine he is just not using it right.[/quote]

As much as I'm not into cover albums I think for you to say "Shaw has no balls at all"- I think you're way off. IF he had no balls at all, Deyoung would still be in the band working "Paradise" into every friggin' lyric and dragging the band down while he worked on his (HORRIBLE) Hunchback play. Dude, it took balls to move on without a founding member who did create a lot of hits for the band and had a serious (and apparently mental) group of fans. For Shaw to move out of that comfort zone and keep together a band that has been a classic rock institution took a LOT of balls. IF he had no balls, he would've stayed in 83 when a STUPID song like Mr. Roboto made the band laughing stocks. Tommy's got a lot of balls.

What the heck is your relationship with Dennis? I don't get you at all.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I am VERY surprised at how good this cd is. I was not expecting anything worth while about, and with the delays of getting it released, I thought we were in trouble. I like Big Bang Theory better than this cd, but not by much. Influence has a better feel to it though. A more laid back feeling than BBT. The first song came on, and I smiled, this is good. Not all the songs work, but nothing falls flat on it's face.
Styx and Shaw/Blades have done covers before
look at the first Styx cd
Lies
Not Dead Yet
Open Arms
12 Days of Christmas
We Will Rock You/We are the Champions
Sweet Emotion
Love Gun,
there is more, but I can't think of them right now. Those were all done good too. So why shouldn't the cover cds expected to be good. They came off better than what I though.

having said that, I am ready for some new music from Styx, Shaw/Blades, and DDY. Guys you don't have that many years left, I would like 2 or 3 new cds of new material from you-ERIC

Yes, the DY concert on VH1Classics was from the "Uprising" video. There were a lot of bits cut out, from what I remember. It's been a while since I watched the VHS.

I rolled the audio of that off onto a MiniDisc years ago... I still have the disc but nothing to play it on. The video was... I mean.... cheezy. Lots of little skits and bits... was just kinda fully of bravado and other kinds of stuff. Some of the ad-libbing that Jack did on "High Enough" was pretty annoying too.

How a couple of peace nick hippies ever survived two albums in a band with Ted "This next song is called don't tread on me and it's like a big fu**in finger to the world that says kiss my america fu**in ass" Nugent is astonishing.

I would agree that Jack's adlibbing in High Enough was downright annoying. Sometimes he blabs too much. I DID like the behind the scenes stuff. I thought Carteloni was pretty funny.

Because they can't stop talking about him, Froy. Seems he is loved or hated equally, but he is certainly not ignored.

As to this live performance of DY, I watched it on Vh1C and enjoyed parts of it. I am so not a fan of Nugent, though, that I have a hard time watching/listening to anything he does. I was surprised at how clothed Nuge was, though. That is usually not the case with him.

Actually 7, I THINK that they were re-recorded for the original video. I've got a boot from Colorado and the vocals are not that tight at all and I THINK it was the same show.

Someone correct me if they know different.

Haven't heard any boots of that specific show, but going in and overdubbing all the vocals in post-production seems unlikely considering the DY warts-and-all aesthetic...unless there were some egregiously out of tune moments.

Side note: I have a recording from a radio broadcast, also in Denver, from the 4th of July 1993. TS was obvioulsy feeling ill and struggling with his vocals, especially the higher notes. It's probably the weakest I've ever heard his voice, but I give him props for soldiering on.

Well, when I saw DY back on that tour (with Dayle, BTW, Zan), Ted was definitely not naked. I think he retired his loin cloth when the 80's ended. He did toss his hat out to the audience. I almost caught it too.

I think that's EASY to explain...

Platinum albums, hit singles, successful tour...paychecks.

...and, of course, they all have ATTITUDE!

I mean, it kept Tommy in a band with Dennis for years, too.

I picked up Influence this week and I am not that impressed.

Only 2 of the songs do it for me, Your Move and Lucky Man. These are songs I listened to as a teenager. All the others are a little before my time and too mellow for may taste.

I'm not a big fan of covers albums in general.... but every *once* in a while one comes along that's damn good and blows you away. This happens to be one of those.... the song selection on here and the interpretions are excellent.

I would have loved to see Shaw/Blades when they were here in Pittsburgh, a couple of my friends went, but I couldn't make it that night as it was my daughters 2nd b-day.

Hopefully they'll make a return swing and I'll be able to catch the show. My friends loved it.
