Interesting...I've not heard about this before. Is it an annual event?

It's been a quasi-annual event over the last decade or so. I cannot personally speak to it, since I've not attended, but from the majority of accounts I've read about it over the years, it's not that great an event. There were several unhappy campers with last year's event.

However, for those that do go, I hope you all have a wonderful time.

Brandon, are you old enough to go to the show at Rama? You have to be 21 or older or is it 19 in Canada eh?

I read about the good and bad from the last one. I'm sure this one will be just fine!

Yes, Brandon has to be 19 to go see the show at Rama. I think he might be able to participate in the "fest" but as for seeing them in concert, I think he has to wait a while.

Last year's Styxfest was a fiasco, but it all had to do with the tickets to the actual show from what I remember. This time around, they aren't looking after tickets, you are on your own for it.

As for me, I'm going to have to pass on this event. It's expensive enough to fly from Edmonton to Toronto as is, then when you factor in hotel, food, the tickets themselves, I'm looking at 1200 or so CDN. Then I have to take money out of my own pocket to pay the sub teacher if I decide to go all three days. It's not worth it.

As for seeing DDY in my own backyard with Glen in November, I'm all over that one baby!

Actually, calling it a fiasco is quite unfair. The only fiasco was the ticket situation, and the casino controlled that, NOT the Styxfest staff. People who came for the right reasons, to have fun with other Styx fans and participate in a charity auction, had a great time. We raised $6000 for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, so I'd say it was quite a success.

This year the charity auction will be bigger than ever, with many items donated by the band. There are plenty of activities planned, including a book signing by Chuck Panozzo. If you want to have a lot of fun with other fans, you'll enjoy it. If your idea of a good time is to sit around and whine about the current line-up of the band, it's not for you.

Styxfest is presented by Geaux Crazy Productions, which has become the default Styx fan club, organizing a variety of fan events. We have had wonderful feedback from our attendees, and the band is VERY happy with us, so I think people can feel secure in Styxfest being a pleasurable experience.

Tani,

how do we join your styx fan club? I thought Styxworld was their only fan club. I never heard of other fan events your company organized. Is there a mailing list? I can't go this time because $200 dollars is a lot of money just to get in the door. Why is it so expnsive?

We are NOT an official Styx fan club. We get called that a lot, even by the band's management, because it's easier to say than "those people who do the Styx events," but at this point, we are just a fan group. We do have a Styxfest mailing list on Yahoo. We've been trying to get the word out far and wide this time, because we've heard of other fans saying the same thing, that they knew nothing about it. The events we've done have been a lot of fun, and I'm still getting wonderful feedback on the one we had a couple of weeks ago in Anaheim, CA.

The cost of Styxfest is based strictly on what we have to pay. We do not make a profit on Styxfest; in fact, we have yet to break even. Putting on an event like this is much like holding a wedding reception. The choices are to pay several thousand dollars per day for the ballroom, or purchase a catering package and pay a reduced fee for the room. The catering package doesn't bring down the cost a lot, but at least it adds a lot of food and drink to the equation.

Styxfest includes lavish meals plus a "break" with snacks and drinks on Friday and Saturday, as well as lighter food on Thursday. There will be a full bar starting at 4 PM. Every attendee will receive a canvas tote bag, a t-shirt and other swag made by Casey, the guy who makes all of the Styx merchandise that you find at concerts. Those swag items alone would cost about $75 if you bought them at the merch table. You also get the Styx Fan Yearbook, which includes photos and information about Styx fans far and wide, so that you can see who's who.

The activities at Styxfest will be a lot of fun. Founding member of Styx Chuck Panozzo will be reading from his new autobiography and will be signing copies and meeting fans afterward. Chuck only comes to certain selected shows, and this is a rare opportunity to get to meet him. Styx's manager, Charlie Brusco, will be speaking on Saturday, taking your questions. There will be other guests, but that's all I can say about that at this time.

Each day there will be games where you can win Styx Tyx. Those can be exchanged for a variety of prizes, including guitar picks, drum sticks, towels, and a ton of other things. There will be an auction on Friday and Saturday, with most of the items donated by the band and their management. So far we have quite a bit of their stage wear, including shirts, pants, and even Ricky's custom-made "Ricky Styx" shoes. Tommy also donated his personalized bathrobe, plus a really cool gig bag (VERY nice high-quality black leather carry-on sized bag, embroidered with the logo) from the 1996 tour. There's much more to come, including a few guitars, but just the items we have now are things a die-hard fan would covet. These items are all autographed by the band, of course. In the case of most of the items of clothing, the donor signed the item, but some have additional signatures as well. The bathrobe is signed by all six members.

After the shows on Friday and Saturday nights, there will be afterparties at the Days Inn across the street from Rama. We'll have munchies there, like pizza and sandwiches, plus we'll have some grown-up beverages.

I do wish that we could bring down the cost of Styxfest, but we are certain that it will be worth far more than the cost.

Thanks but I know about the styxfest list. I meant a list of events because I only know about the one Styxfest you did and that california party last month. I thot you meant you did other fan events.

Lavish meals and a full bar is good but the rest of the stuff you listed is free like Chuck and the games, or not something I'd pay for, like swag and a yearbook. I would rather spend it on the charity auction. Then again the free drinks would be worth it. I can drink a lot in three days and I don't like the cheap stuff! :) Thanks for the info.

Question concerning the guitars. Are these cheaper signed guitars or actual guitars used and played by members of the band?

Hi Eric,

I'm sorry, I don't have any details about the guitars. Jeanne Shaw just said that they were buying a few guitars for the auction.

There may be some cheaper guitars as well, like the little backpacker guitars that were signed for the auction in Anaheim. Those were for display purposes, since some people wanted something small enough to put in a shadowbox case.

Tani, Styxfest.com says cash bar. That means you pay for each drink. Full bar usually means the price of drinks is included in registration. Are drinks included or not? I hate to be picky but I need to budget and you said earlier it is a full bar, which makes a difference. Thanks!
