What a wonderful show last night.

Kind of in the Storytellers format, Tommy and Jack with a couple of acoustics provide for a banter and musical night that shows why these guys are best friends. Tommy and Jack were totally comfortable together and shared stories about their time together.

Songs from Hallucination, Influence, Damn Yankees, Night Ranger and Styx were played with a few cover songs that weren't on Influence.

After only 2 nights together, they changed the set list up and it is clear that it will change from show to show and no 2 shows will be alike.

The harmonies are better than what appears on either of the Shaw-Blades albums.

If only Tommy could bring this spontanaiety to the Styx shows. Something that is missing from their current set.

I'll be at the Paradise in Boston on Thursday. Great (ahem) acoustic venue.

I don't think this is the biggest problem with Styx as they've never been the most spontaneous band. I would agree that changing it up would be good, but I really get the feeling Tommy needs a creative outlet that isn't Styx right now and your comments about the AC show prove it. I'll know more on Thursday.

Yep. And I would love to see Tommy do more stuff outside of Styx.

Philly.

A different set. That makes three sets in three days. And a new beginning to the show. (These guys really have too much time on their hands to think of this) As the opening promotional/sponsor video started, Jack snuck on one of the couches. Tommy and William enter the stage and when Tommy sits at the mic he starts calling for Jack. "Hey the shows about to begin" and Jack wakes up from the couch saying he was just taking a nap. Too funny.

The set list showed the basic flow of the show and lists a half dozen songs at the end as alternatives. When they don't want to play a song, they go to an alternative or sometimes a song that is not on the list. They decide on the fly what they want. New stories, new songs, what a relaxed fun show.

Last night newbies inclluded Norwegian Wood, Crystal Ball, and Girls with Guns. there was another Damn Yankees song that I can't remember the name of. All of these songs they said they had planned on working on today for future shows.

The show is about two hours.

It seems that these guys are having the time of their lives and it will be interesting to see what Tommy does in the future. This could easily give Tommy some creative juices and may be just what he needs. (Probably in a whole lot of ways)

And on a side note: If they are in your area, just look for the Shaw Blades bus with Tommy's and Jack's faces painted on the side....
