I was there! :) It had been only a few months before the Star ceremony that I rediscovered Journey. I found out from reading BT that they were getting a Star & since I live in L.A. I thought it would be neat to go. I didn't expect SP because of all that I had learned from reading up, but in my heart I wished. I honestly didn't know it was going to be so crowded with fans or we would've left the house earlier, but we got a spot at the far end up to the barrier. Good thing my husband asked me if I was gonna bring the camera as my sis & I were walking out the door - I wasn't planning on it & I had never used the new digital before, but he showed me quickly how & said, "And, don't drop it!"
I didn't know anyone, but from pics posted on BT & seeing BTM, I recognized JSS, Cyndy & Lora, the bearded guy in all white (what's his name?) & some BT'ers from their sigs.
Good thing I brought the camera 'cuz I got my photos & most especially of SP. What a shock to see him! The roar of the crowd made us at the far end say, "what? did the band come out?" The tall man next to me said, "it's Steve Perry" And, then we all roared & surged forward...lol! We got yelled at by the guard to get off the barrier we stepped up on to see. A girl upstairs in the Music building was jumping up & down, I remember seeing.
After the speeches & star unveiling...our end was yelling for Steve. And, he came! First, Neal came & I got his autograph (the tall man gave me a Frontiers so I had something to sign cuz I didn't think of that either!) & then, SP!! I was shaking so much I could hardly work the camera...he signed my album & he was SOOOO close...sigh! I also sensed he was overwhelmed & a bit "closed" so I didn't ask for a pic with him or anything. My sis was bold & asked to shake his hand, which was awkward with all the things coming at him to sign. What I clearly remember is when he stood back for a few seconds & had a shy smile & his eyes twinkled - yes, they literally did. Oh, I also recall his eyes looking me down & I suddenly wished I had worn something different & was 20 yrs younger & thinner LOL! It was very exciting - the whole experience....loved it! I felt like crying when SP was near.

Or were you referring to JDK (John Kalodner)? Tammy, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts from that day! LOL, amazing how the man can turn a normally well-adjusted, middle-aged woman into a shaking, overwhelmed 16 year old.

Never say never! If this gal from Canada can happen to be in the right place at the right time twice in the last year.....it can happen! If somebody would have told me a year and a half ago I'd be meeting Steve Perry and JSS, I'd have laughed at them.

By the way, lmao at your sig, hilarious movie.

LOL..thanks. Seriously tho, I missed Journey in concert cause I was married to a guy that thought the epitome of rock music was "Bad Bad Leroy Brown". I missed Strange Medicine cause I was in the middle of the divorce. I've seen Journey in concert since then, but not met them. Then, of all times... I had to work when they got their star. At this point... I'm not holding my breath. I've met so many other members of other rock bands... just not the guys I truly give a damn about. Go figure.

No, it was JDK that I was referring to...I just couldn't think of his name this morning. He was the A&R man once. I wish I could share my pics but I don't have a scanner anymore, but they are just the same as what everyone else took...except, some are close-ups.
I am so glad that I went that day...but, I am kicking myself for not going last year (was it last year?) when SP made a surprise visit...those lucky gals (Deb) got an actual hug from him & he asked their names!! waaah...I had my upholstery class that morning - dammit.

Wasn't there an interview with Neal that was posted here where he said he didn't speak to Steve at the WOF ceremony? Some of the pics and video clips that have been posted sure look like there were some greetings of some sort exchanged. Image

I remember reading that too, Sherrie. I think he meant conversation. The only thing I remember reading about anyone talking was when SP said in interview that when he pointed to the star & told JC that "there are a lot of songs there" or something to that effect. I know some people will think this was all kinda staged for the cameras & who knows - performers have to put on a face obviously in public...but, it seemed to me that the band was genuinely happy to see SP & I remember JC placing his hand on SP's back while Steve was kneeling down autographing something. But, I also got the distinct impression that SP was uh, a bit uncomfortable with the band, which is understandable, but he later talked about what a high it was for him & I believe it was.

I don't think much of anything was staged in the interaction between them because they really weren't expecting Steve to show. Their expressions look surprised and pleased in all the pics. That hug between Steve and Neal didn't have to happen. All that would have been expected were smiles and handshakes. There was some genuine emotion there whether Neal wants to admit it or not.

Tammy, great story...thanks for sharing.Michael too.All of you attending that day were extremely lucky to see all the Journeymen together again. 8)

I have 2 videos from that day,but they were sent to me in rm. format, which is not supported by Youtube.
I converted them to avi.,but for some reason their lenght is not the same as the original rm.file (I guess the program cut it).

Will try to look into the prob. and redo the conversion thing when I'll have time.

For now, here they are.Short, but sweet.

Yup, almost brings tears to my eyes for sure. Makes you want to lock those 2 in a padded room and hide the key until they make up.

We asked Neal about seeing Perry at the ceremony and he said he was thrilled and that it was amazing to see him after all those years. I don't doubt that it was emotional for them both, they were like brothers.
