Styx in Manchester 22nd April

Postby styxmike » Wed Apr 25, 2007 5:06 am

Well the boys made me proud again on Sunday night
I admit to being a little apprehensive of Styx being sandwiched between two of Britains best loved hard rock bands but...........WOW
A storming set by Lizzy was followed by an even better set by "Our Boys" it was great to see them perform on a bigger stage than the last tour, and bigger crowd..........but would have loved to see them headline (50 mins is not enough) the crowd around me were mainly Purple/Lizzy fans, indeed a little piss taking at the prospect of "that band that did babe" taking the stage was aimed at me (decked out in roboto shirt)
how satisfying at the end of the performance to be approached by some folk asking me what albums i would recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they didnt know what a kick ass rock band these guys are and "who is that guy on the keyboards, what a showman"
Styx made plenty of new fans that night.............and the star of the show.........LARRY
proud guys........very proud
It is STYX it says so on Larrys keyboards

What did they play in the 50 mins (thats not a lot of music)? What did they have to cut out that you would have liked to have seen?

You are such a tease.
Why don't you tell StyxMike when Dennis is going to play in England. That way he can avoid booking holidays on said dates. You do have inside info on that I believe?Right?

Froy....my daughter would love to see Dennis, she is a huge fan, like me............but what chance of any uk shows eh??????NONE.........i asked years ago on "ask suzzane"
dont think Styx had any control over how long they played, they were "special guests"
As much as i love DDY i cant help but admire Gowan, he really is a class act!!!!!!!!!
Deep Purple were brilliant................it was a night of classic rock........we loved every minute of it..........looks like i got a new gig partner (my daughter)
Like Ash I'm going through a lot of personal crap.........but when i'm sorted, my and my daughter are coming over to see DDY i promised her that

Ouch.
Just read at the Highway Star, that Styx only got to play 3 songs due to technical difficulty and set timeslots(In Newcastle).
I would not want to be the sound tehcs of Styx that night.

Froy, Do you really have any inside info on approximately the release date of Dennis' new CD?
I think I am going to fly down to San Diego to see him and Glen. I flew accross country last year to see them in Jersey and it was worth it.

This was a Greeting from Tommy on Styxworld about this.

Hello Friends,

Today I’m writing from Cardiff By The Sea, and this is our first time here. We arrived around 3:300 AM this morning after driving from Nottingham following the shortest set we’ve ever played. A complete crash in our digital monitor board seconds before we were to take the stage held us up for what would have been three quarters of our set time. After every last possible fox was exhausted, rather than coming all this way and not playing a note, we made the decision to get on stage with no monitors (we have a separate sound system from what you hear out front, which enables us to hear each other so we can perform in time and in tune with each other—that’s what crashed!) and play at least a representative amount of music for those who traveled to see us. We were able to get a slight feed of the house mix so that we had some sort of reference, then jumped into “Blue Collar Man,” then “Come Sail Away,” “Renegade and our “Good Night Jam” before taking our bow and surrendering the stage to Deep Purple, and we were happy not to have bitten into their time on stage. The Nottingham crowd was incredibly understanding and gave us an wonderful reception. We all felt it would be better to let them hear that we were not holding things up because we depended upon prerecorded lip synch music, and that we’d rather come off a little awkward than stand them up. As strange as it sounded up there, I was very proud of my band mates because If I hadn’t known better, I’d’ve sworn it was just another night. Our heartfelt thank yous to the fine folks of Nottingham for your patience and understanding and I hope some of you will make it to Cardiff tonight or to another of the remaining shows here in the UK.

Now, off to sound check to see our brand new monitor mixing console!!!

T Shaw

Born For Adventure 2007 Froy? Please..

Quit pulling stuff out of your arse.. You can't tell me that a song like "This Time Next Year" will be lighting up the charts.

Dennis Deyoung may get some airplay in Quebec, but as for him being on the radio up here coast to coast, keep dreaming.

It's Styx.. right sure it is..

Unless he gets some major help from Mr. Burtnik in the harmonies department, it will be the weakest part of the album.

I'm hoping that some of the Son of Edge demos make it onto the CD, but one will have to wait and see.

I wish I could be as opptimistic as you Froy on this Cd, but I with Dennis's previous track record of solo albums and his work since Kilroy, I will just have to wait and see.
