I finally got a chance to listen to the song and this is where I (once again) disagree with your opinion. I don't want Dennis doing another Grand Illusion or Born For Adventure. Been there, done that. Anytime an artist repeats what he/she has done in the past - it isn't evolving. That is why I say that PIECES of EIGHT is the WEAKEST OF ALL A&M albums. It is the only one where the band didn't change directions - its a poor sequel to Grand Illusion. Every other A&M album you can point to and say they had a different sound. But Pieces of 8 is just another rehash of GI and a poorer one at that.
So, I congratulate DDY on not trying to rerecord a Born For Adventure like so many of you "DDY needs to rock more" people evidently want him to do. I think he has taken a step out there in a different directions. I have only heard the song once. Its okay - it has its moments. I don't like that French bastard, however. He sucks - worse voice than JY. Would like to hear a DDY only version.
Oh, I don't need to see a rehash of old style either. I meant, it doesn't have the same killer hook or impact that any of those 3 songs did. I agree most with DJMike in that I don't personally care if it "rocks" or not, I just want it to grab me.
As for LaPointe, I kinda dig his voice, but I agree that it does not belong in a duet with Dennis. Far too different styles to make it work, IMO.
Do you think that song works if it is DDY and Burnik as the secod voice? I'm also not a big fan of the French. What the hell are they saying anyway?
