What annoys me is that we get that small video EP, but they'll just throw them up on YouTube. Grr.

I remember seeing some record commercial way back when and they said something about a song from Pieces of 8 being on the compilation and they actually showed a clip that was from the Pieces of 8 videos. I THINK it was Sing for the Day.
I've not ever seen those videos posted anywhere. I've seen them for the rest of the albums from Grand Illusion forward EXCEPT for PO8.

Are those around anywhere?
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

i have them. they were broadcast on german tv (boat on the river, borrowed time, sing for the day, ack... i can't remember all of them) the quality is grainy so i didn't bother putting them up on youtube. they are all lipsynched. the borrowed time one was pretty cool... if i remember correctly it shows them loading all the equipment into the venue, the band arriving in limos, fans lining up to enter the venue etc. i'll see if i can find it.

OK, I may have said this before, but am I the only one who hears "Don't Let It End" and thinks that it's only Dennis, Chuck and John? The more I listen, the more I think the high "Tommy Shaw" vocal harmony is Dennis himself, and I also very strongly suspect that the guitar solo is not Tommy Shaw, but Tommy Dzialllo. Hearing it again (it's a track I don't listen to much) reinforces it.

I hope all is well.

YOu and I have talked about this, but I've always felt that solo was more Tommy D. than Tommy S. Listen to the phrasing, sound, and style. It also could fit right in on Desert Moon, too. Sonically Kilroy and DM are similar.

We may never know the truth, but the ears don't lie. Just like I said in 1999 that Chuck didn't play on BNW and I've been proven right ... yet was crucified at the time.

I always thought that Kilroy was really Dennis's first solo album..that he did all the production and the others just came in for their parts...I also heard a rumor about "Just Get Through This Night" - that Dennis radically changed that song in post production. And there is some other rumor about the video, the video storyboard, or the video shoot for "Haven't We Been Here Before" - that the wheels were really coming off here.

I just listened to it again and I think you are right - it is Dennis backing himself.. Also, the backing vocals on High Time are all Dennis over-dubbing himself..
How much did Tommy actually play on this album?

Well, whatever happened there, that is still one of the strangest videos I have ever seen from any band. If this is the same director who did other videos of that era, they were all quite artsy and avant guarde and basically made no sense at all.

Chuck claims otherwise. I posted in a recent thread a link to an articlewhere he indicates he played on 2 songs on BNW in order for him to be listed in the credits. Perhaps this is simply Chuck's incorrect recollection...

"Several," according to his book. Whether they were kept/augmented or not, who knows? But I don't believe anyone is claiming that he didn't play on the record at all.

Let me clarify - I've always said it sounded like Chuck on "Everything Is Cool". So I believe he played on 1 or 2 tracks. But there are some songs that clearly do not sound like Chuck in tone or playing. I mean, Chuck didn't magically learn how to play 5-string bass ;)

Here is a question for Sterling, or anybody else for that matter:

Thinking back on that Don't let it End song, I know I remember Dennis introducting that song during the Kilroy tour as a personal sort of thing in the context that he (either Dennis or the Kilroycharacter) had screwed up his relationship with his better half. Since I cannot remember anybody talking about the DeYoung's ever splitting, I was wondering if this song has a realm of truth to it? I know DDY did the song Call Me based on a good friend's split with his wife/girlfriend.

I'm thinking it was a work of fiction.

You are probably right. THat might have been another plot line in the concept that did not make the final edit, ala Sparky the dog in Paradise.
