Also regarding the point of going against popular opinion just because, and seeing oneself as a cool dude because one's not a loon (a classic loonism, btw: "you either acknowledge perry IS journey or you're just lying about it") I would dispute that and again state I did all this in 1992 before the internet and before I had a notion that perry was this icon and had obnoxious crazy fans.

So I wasn't predisposed to be biased, merely thought he was a pretty good singer and that neal was the main ingredient.

Understood Red.

The main ingredient, looks plain on it's own..Perry made it look like a double Choc cake, with thick cream and some more...fuck I'm hungry

See- you ARE on my wavelength.
I have chocolate cake in the fridge. AND I have a pot of extra thick cream! ha ha ha ha ha.

Good thing that Journey became a heads-down, no-nonsense meat and potato act after Perry left then....

Honestly NMT - are you even a fan of this band? You keep saying how you wish Journey were this or Journey were that but you never seem to accept them for what they actually are: an AOR band specialising in high sentimentality and bombast for a predominantly female audience.

The only singer who seems to fit your ideal is JSS...and the guy hasn't recorded a single track with the band yet.

All very puzzling....

Good to hear Perry is writing with Nuno. They are a good combo, both talented in their own way. I like the ballads, however sweet and syrupy, they still have something special when sung by Perry. I'd like to see Perry and Nuno come up with a kick ass melodic rock tune as well as any ballad they might pen. Should be interesting, if this stuff sees the light of day.

Yeah, JSS could be the answer, Augeri at 100% could have been, I don't blame him for Schon and Cain's reluctance to progress musically and cut back on the greatest hits. I only want them to be inspired to do new music and not be concerned with what people expect it to sound like. They have shown hints of it with WGW, SOG, The Time, OOHW.

Matt, the ballad to non-ballad ratio on the albums is like 1/4.5 :?

Sounds like a rock band to me.

Of the greatest radio hits its we have 3 ballads and far more non ballads.

Of the lesser hits we have like 2 ballads and still more nonballads.

SA was more of a rocker at heart than Perry, go check out his previous work. Influenced by Plant, Marriot, etc. more than Cooke.

lol, butting in, and not exactly sure what you're talking about, but if you're saying that Journey should stay with a no more than 1 ballad for every 4.5 rockers, I'm so with you. I hope Perry will stay with that formula for any future recordings as well. I love Faithfully, and most of the Rolie era softer songs, but my faves by Journey w/Perry are the rockers. That's why I love the Philly 83 concert so much. Just about everything was faster and meatier (even DSB).
I know some fans don't like these sped up versions, but I LOVE them.

What? Why?
I agree with NoMoTa, more hits were non-ballads than were ballads. They rocked more than wept. I'm telling YOU that, my good man.

Additionally, if I might clarify: I am not NMT's Doppleganger or vice/versa.
What it is is, and you might want to sit down for this as it will doubtless be a shock:
More than one person thinks there was far more to journey than bettancourt's and nikki sixx's writing muse.

PS, frfksakes i'll straighten you out then:
NoMota made the point that they're more a rock band and he preferred augri's rockier side.
Matt made the point that they were more a weepy syrupy band, and that we can't embrace jrny w/out acknowledging that and I rebutted that they recorded way more rock than ballads, and had more non ballad hits than ballad hits.

OK, and how's that when they recored 4+ times the number of non ballads than ballads?

Rockers and mid-tempos can also be sentimental but not syrupy I guess.
