On VH-1 Most Softsensational Songs...

As voted by Vh-1 viewers..

Say what you want about Babe, but it is a drawing card that puts the name Styx out there in many ways it would have never been...

JY and everyone else knows that, too. It's just that in hindsight, it was a financially rewarding thing, yet it brough stuff that some wound up resenting.

It happens. Other than Rush, bands that survive adapt. Styx adapted.

Coolness on the #2 on the VH1 thing. Babe was a great tune at the time. Like all #1 hits it worked for charting. Isn't that the goal? Connoisseurs of their favorite bands always criticize the mainstream top 10 hits that made their band known worldwide. Go figure. I say. Enjoy it for what it was and is or hit the next button. But, most likely your friends that are not serious STYX fans wouldn't object to Babe turning up on one of your mixed CDs. Just might bring back some memories.

I guess I must be one who loves "softsational" music, but I really liked a lot of songs on that VH1 list. A lot. There was some great music on that VH1 countdown -- "What a Fool Believes" "I'm Not in Love" "Open Arms" and many more.

Some of it was questionable as to whether it could be classified as soft rock. But it is VH1 after all.

There are an awful lot of groups who had as their biggest hit a soft rock/power ballad. Often it would be the song that made them accessible to a wider audience and, as Babe did for Styx, brought in a lot more fans who stayed to enjoy the other stuff, too.

I always enjoy these types of VH1 programs because you get an update on what the performers are doing now. Often it is quite surprising.

I agree - how could they say "Rosanna" is soft rock? Raise your hand if you've ever had Rosanna on in the middle of ....

Nope. Not what I was saying. I was referring to the likes of Debby Boone, the Carpenters, and my beloved Barry Manilow being referred to as "rock." These are pop artists, as were several others on that program.

I just watched the show. Dust in the Wind - "Most depressing ballad ever"? Where do they get the non singer/songwriters for the commentary on VH1. I guess Chris Jericho must be on VH1's payroll now, along with those ugly untalented women who make fun of people who sold millions of records. I agree with Bugsy, you throw out a Bolton and Captain and Tenille song, and you really don't have a bad set list there.

Boy, good question! They seem to have an unlimited supply, though. I'm with Bugsy, I like finding out what some of the artists are up to these days, and I don't mind hearing what the artists and/or their peers have to say, but I can do without the the commentary by the drones.
