Everyone knows that you are absolutely correct in your statement.
Again, I couldn't agree more with my BFF Rajah. It would be absolutely daft to educate or familiarize yourself before posting here. AND the "everyone knows" part too. Simply brilliant, as always.
Too true. And that brings up another point: our new special friend cleverly uses quotation marks (not consistently, but with plenty of gusto) around the band's name in order to express his opinion that they are less than authentic in some fashion.
DDYStyxFan, while I admire the sentiment and understand the air of dismissive contempt that you wish to convey (I can practically hear the delightful microsecond pause before the word and can easily visualize the finger gestures that go with it) there are other options practiced here which may be useful in expanding your palette.
For example, you could choose to capitalize the name when referring to the only true version of Styx (that is to say, any lineup pre-99) and use all lowercase otherwise. There is a variation on this theme which uses ALL CAPS when referring to the "real" Styx. Both versions get the point across while also helping you to blend in with the earthy posting style of your comrades-in-arms.
A personal favorite of mine is the "replacing-the-S-with-$" approach. It's not only stylish, but downright Swiftian in its subtle message that any version of the band without DDY is only in it for the money. As a combination Instrument Of Ridicule/Therapeutic Device, it has worked fantastically well for those poor, poor souls who recently had their childhoods raped by George Lucas.
Got a fondness for the classics? Why not go with the tried and true "insert-the-N" approach? It's powerful, and has the added benefit of taking a word back from the critics that once reviled the band (you know, back when they
didn't deserve it.)
You could also refer to them as Dennis' Former Band (or DFB for short.) It's not as widely practiced and the acronym can be confusing for some folks who aren't in the know, but that sort of cloak-n-dagger creativity is all part of the fun!
The possibilities are truly endless, and the only boundaries are that of your imagination. Go forth and spread the hate!
