Hey man! Can't get into a whole lot of specifics, but I was able to perform with the band, and by all accounts I had a great time. I can't get into anything else really specific here, but we had a great week, and now I'm (NOT) looking forward to getting back to work once again!

Just wanted to pop in here and count myself among the living. If you notice I am not around as much as usual, trust me, it is NOT from any directive of the band or anything, only that I want to isolate myself from getting worked up or making myself a target by posting a lot, etc....Just want to pop in from time to time and say hi...Thanks for all your support, guys and gals.....Now back to work!

Hi Jeremey!

I have been a fan of yours since 2004! I figured you would not be able to get into specifics...but it was worth a shot! lol

Best of luck to you...Your voice is amazing! I hope you get the gig :)

Let me just be clear that both them and management made it very clear that they don't want a "perry clone," I promise.

I remember JOURNEY arguing that SA was NOT a clone, too however the live shows eventually turned into something of a tribute.

It makes me wonder what JC meant by "legacy sound" then. I was going to explore this topic in another thread but why not bring it up here. To me rhythm section of JOURNEY has been the backbone of the legacy sound. Everyone talks about DSB but nobody talks about how RV's bass MAKES that song. Sure. SP's vocals are great and Neal and JC are fine but Ross' bass is the backbone of that tune. SS' drums are right in there as well. In fact, SP played bass and typically wrote with one. The bass is what helped give the songs such dynamics for SP's voice to soar.

Is JOURNEY getting back to more rhythmic music? Arrival, Red 13, and Generations were void of any rhythm.

Jeremey,

First off I am one of the fans that was deeply hurt and troubled by the apparent lack of direction from my favorite band.

I am willing to give Journey a listen IF they continue to record fresh music.

I listened to your solo stuff and you do have an amazing voice, I wish you all the luck in the world with your dream... I hope you knocked the guys out and IF you do get the gig don't let them stand still, record new music, if you're not moving forward you are going backwards.

Live your dreams,

Tony

Jeremey,

I just wanted to say... CONGRATULATIONS for even getting an audition with Journey! That is a monumental task in itself (this coming from another tribute singer interested in auditioning as well)!

I am all about friendly competition and hold no hard feelings for people, regardless of the outcomes of the competitions I've entered. So, in saying that...

Above all else, my wish, is for Journey to find the singer they need to take their music to the next level...

BEST of LUCK to you!

Sincerely,

Don't be stoopid! You know exactly what I meant!

Where is Ross' bass on ANY of those albums? Where? Where is the soulful, rhythmic drums? I don't hear them. If you do then please help me.

People want to talk about the crappy production of those albums. It's not so much the production as it is the ARRANGEMENTS of the songs.

Where's the rhythm & blues type stuff that they used to play behind SP? THAT is what they built their legacy sound upon.

I knind of agree with what Fyre is saying though...Deen thumps the crap out his kit and it gives Journey a power they lacked (unless Larry Londin was behind the kit  ) - but equally it's low on subtlety. Even on Journey's most commercial hits - such as DSB - the drum patterns are actually quite unusual. If Journey ever do a new album again I hope they'll get Deen to vary it up a bit.

"Higher Place" and "We'll Meet Again" from "Arrival" are both great examples of that.

Alive is absolutely what it is.

If you don't have a great bass to fill the bottom then there's not much for the singer to soar over!

No.You were focusing on what you DON'T like about those albums.S'ok,tho...it's only human nature. :P

Read the "Ross was alive" remark and couldn't help thinking that maybe it happened because Herbie held a gun to his head. That and perhaps the tremendous response from the fans - another good motivation to shine.
I guess after Escape, everything went upside down and Ross's playing wasn't a priority anylonger.Herbie must've had other things to worry about.

True about the bass part - it's vital for the rhythm of a band.
Maybe that's one of the reasons why I like ROR so much.Randy was all over the place with that bass.Live was even better.

Actually very untrue, I saw Jon eating a Taco with a light glazed Latino Sauce while on the Arrival tour and onstage by his keyboard I might add.

Hi Jeremey. Congratulations on the tryout. I know you can't elaborate on details or anything, but it bothers me that management and the band say they don't want a "Perry clone", but are in fact trying out people who sound just like Steve Perry. That just doesn't make any sense. If they didn't want a clone, why is Soto out of the band? Am I missing something? I guess by "clone" they mean that the person can sound like Perry, but that's where the similarities end. I'm not trying to come across as a smart ass, but nothing this band says makes any sense.

You were actually expecting that Journey&management would make sense!??
This is all part of the business. They dont care about what makes sense.
If they werent lookin for a Perry-clone, why did they keep looking when they had JSS!?
