Watch those candles dude they cause thousands of fires in the home every year.

The lack of understanding regarding heroes and heroism on this board is staggering.

Neal is a GUITAR hero. Jon Cain is a SONGWRITING hero. They're also heroes to those who enjoy knifing friends in the back.

Listen. You're misusing the word entirely.

Check out Carol Pearson's book The Hero Within. Fascinating and enlightening stuff. You're a hero - you just don't know it.

I don't know many people that ascribe to this definition of "hero". Most people think of a hero as one of the professions already mentioned, someone who saves another person's life, etc.

You're my hero, Dave but I won't embarass you nor myself and explain why

I really don't see why soldiers and firefighters ought to hold the monopoly on heroism. That's a ridiculous idea.

Notice the etc. there Matthew. I never said those professions hold a monopoly on anything. All I did is name off a few examples. My list was not exhaustive. You're intelligent enough to figured that out without my having to explain it.

No - but you were confining it to life and death situations.

Again, they were EXAMPLES! Dude, just admit you were wrong for crying out loud.

It's all subjective, guys...whoever you look up to.

I joked about not thinking my husband is one. That's just a joke, I do believe he's one. Yet he doesn't like to be considered a hero and he, as well as all of his coworkers, do not believe that they are heros...even after being involved in 9/11. My husband thinks that what I do is much harder. Being with the kids 24/7, he says he could never do, and I'm the "hero".

However you want to define it I think is cool. Just says you admire someone for something they do. 8)

Fyre I am not going to get into it with you too - Neal is a Guitar PLAYER, Jon Cain is a SONGWRITER a person that is willing to lay down their life for someone they don't even know is a HERO. A person who is willing to save another person's life i.e. Doctor, Surgeon is a HERO

Why the compulsion to always get others to admit that they're wrong? I can speak from experience on this one because I've been at the receiving end of it!

Trust me. That's not a quality that many others admire in their heroes...

Dave - I really don't think that "etc" lets you off the hook - given that you were arguing against the "special achievement" definition.

What other definitions were covered by that "etc" then?

They may as well stop the auditions now, I am really impressed with Jeremey and I think he is as close "sonically" to the Journey legacy as they can get, and it sounds to me like he has the pipes to tour w/o blowing out his vocals.

I just hope it's not going to be a nostalgia thing only... new music or nothing for me.

That being said I will give the band a chance w/ Jeremey, only condition NEW MUSIC.

You wanna piss me off that's just the way to get there you fucking cockslurping asshole! And yes Andrew I am Flipping out on this one - go ahead and send me on a vacation.

That's what I HATE about celebs. They ARE considered "Heroes". Like Geddy Lee said.."Look..we're musicians...it's not that noble a pursuit". And that's true. The REAL Heroes are the people like Chief and Haak mentioned. Celebs are SHIT. All these people keeping democracy together, saving lives, etc etc ARE THE REAL HEROES.

Can't we maybe agree that there's a heirachy of heroes? You know...soldiers and firefighters at the top of the list...then Steve Perry...then maybe a charity woerker or something?

I won't deny that I hold some people in the music business in higher reguard than others...but HERO just ain't the word I like to use when you're dealing with someone who's, let's say, a GREAT Guitarist..but a shitty human being.

THAT is the point! It's the guitar WORK that's to be admired. Guitar hero.

Ultimately, my wife is a bigger hero than anyone on this board. I watched her give birth 3 times. In my estimation GIVING LIFE is just as noble as anyone saving another's.

You don't see it as degrading to lump a guitar player under the same umbrella as firemen, police and Military? And No I don't give a rat's ass what either of you two fucking assholes thinks of me - you don't know shit about me or what I've done. I do know this much 1. I can play guitar, but I bet your fucking hero Schon don't know the first thing about fighting a house fire. See I can do his job (albeit not nearly as well) but he wouldn't do mine even on a bet.

I'm the same way. I can play...not AS well..but pretty damn well...and if I made it to the stage..I STILL wouldn't consider myself a hero. If I pulled someone out of a burning building, or took a bullet for my country..THEN I would.

I'm being very serious now. I've always looked up to fireman, soldiers, and policemen. I'm not physically capable of doing those jobs so it never happened for me. One of the things I find heroic about civil servants is their willingness TO SERVE. This obviously requires a sense of humility and a deep compassion for humanity.

No, I don't. Schon is a hero in an entirely different context. Would I argue that he is as courageous as a fireman? Of course not. Is he as important to the community as a fireman? Again - it would be ridiculous to think he was. Does he take the same risks? No.

But is he someone whose talent I look up to? Does his talent inspire me? Yes, it does. And for that reason he's been a hero of mine.

Hey peeps, there are various catagories of heroism, but even the topmost within the catagory of entertainer or sports figure can't measure up to a soldier, fireman or policeman unless they've also been one of them.
