Did I or did I not ask you to stop harrassing Zan?

Andrew, I simply asked her a question on why she likes Styx if she can't stand Dennis DeYoung. Legitimate question, I think. If you are going to post negative things then other people should be able to call you out on it. Nothing I said was "harrassing" in any way.

rajah2165 wrote:OK Zan I will as you so eloquently put it STFU, but only after I call you on yet another inconsistency and actually get you to answer a question head on. You said, "I only like DDY stuff from GI and PO8"

Please show where I said that exact quote (and I would appreciate a direct quote with a link). I've said his work from those albums I like better than anything else (in fact, I have always maintained that I loved "Lonely People" and "Nothing Ever Goes as Planned," as well as the music in "High Time" and I love "Born for Adventure")

..OK that is about 6-7 songs that DDY contributed to those two albums. But if you look at Styx, they have probably released, what 140 or so original songs as Styx?

Actually, after Kilroy was released, Styx had aver 190 original songs. Your numbers are very modest.

Probably 75 or so are contributed by DDY. And you like 6 of them.

I like more than 6 DDY-penned songs. I own 5 of his solo albums as well + Ultimate Collection & the Symphony Live CD. As in, I paid money for them and have them in my home. I also paid money to see him in concert. WTF do you want? For me to jump on your bandwagon of hate for the new Styx and join you in your quest to spew as much trash about Gowan and JY as possible? To call all female Styx fans "fat housewives" like you did, or mention on a regular basis the money Tommy put "up his nose?"

As a whole, Dennis has written more songs I don't like than Tommy or Glen have. Big swinging mickys. Doesn't mean I think he's useless. I just find I am often disappointed by his efforts in the last 20 years. SO WHAT.

So, again I ask you, if you don't like 90% of the music contributed by DDY, why the fuck are you here? It goes beyond personal - you don't like his music.

You are putting words in my mouth (as usual) and adding your own deluded slant, then wording it in the form of WHAT YOU BELIEVE TO BE A "RATIONAL QUESTION." Unfortunately, Rajah and rational don't ever go hand in hand, and most here know that too.

But...in a silly attempt to amuse you and kill a few minutes, I will address this ridiculous, stupid, and worthless waste of time question:

I don't like ALL of his music, and I especially don't enjoy a lot of his newer stuff. As far as me liking him as a person, this isn't a best friends board, so that's irrelevant. But I'm not one who thinks he's a martyr, no.

I have not hidden the fact that I dislike and disrespect Tommy Shaw and JY personally.

*gasp* no!

That is different from you - you bash him personally and you bash him professionally.

Saying Denny is like Barry Manilow is not "bashing." I *like* Barry Manilow. Saying I think his CD is inconsistant is not "bashing."

I'm sure if he had given you that hug you wanted back in 1986 or whenever it was, you might have a different opinion, but the facts are you can't stand the guy or his music and this guy contributed more than 50% of all Styx output (and I won't even get into the fact that he produced all of it). So, again my question is, why are you here? Why do you like this band?

Funny you mention "the hug." LOL (which he DID give me, BTW, he was just a cold presence that refused to smile during any of the M&G, unlike John P., who was a delight to everyone). Also, and I have mentioned this before, the next night they played, I was in the 3rd row directly in front of Mr. D, and he recognized me, pointed me out, smiled and asked me to serenade him during one of Glen's (Tommy's) songs. So, I hardly hold anything from that time against him. I just said (I believe once or twice - SEVEN YEARS AGO) that I could understand why people found him difficult to deal with, if my encounter was any indication fo what the man was like, and NATURALLY, IN TRUE DEYOUNGIAN FORM, it was taken out of context, blown out of proportion, and used as some sort of leveling tool whenever a point needed to be made. Pathetic.

So again, my answer to the question you asked no less than THREE times in this thread is "I do like his stuff, just not as much as YOU, and not so much his work in recent years."

Hey, maybe if you ask me again, I might change my answer!
-Zan :)

believe me, i know my Styx

Interesting..someone "making their debut" and the first post - the first thing they want to get off their chest is to defend Zan...hmmmm.....[/quote]
Maybe I am new at posting, but I've been lurking for a couple of years now. I wasn't defending Zan. I was agreeing with how 'styxfanNH' worded what they said. And I guess I've fallen for your trap and now feel the need to defend my opinion. Which is exactly what everyone is supposed to be able to do on here. Express their opinions.

I didn't realize that Dennis was the only one in the band. There were other writers and lead singers.

It goes beyond personal - you don't like his music. I have not hidden the fact that I dislike and disrespect Tommy Shaw and JY personally. I think Tommy Shaw is a two faced lying weasel (who has been caught numerous times in lies about what really went down) and that JY in the devil incarnate.

This is different than what you believe to be the personal attacks on your hero?

But guess what? I still like their music. I like a ton of Tommy songs, and while JY is not my favorite musically, there are a handful of his songs that I can tolerate. So, that would be the majority of Styx's music.

So if this is what you truly believe, then whi is it OK for you to like the music of those that you despise, but not someone else? I see a double standard here.

Dennis produced, much of it, not ALL of it

So, again my question is, why are you here? Why do you like this band?

Because believe it or not, the band is not all about Dennis. It is about a period of time wher 5 musicians got together and made some great music, not a 1 man band or a band that was only known for having one singer. You seem to disregard that fact

and after hearing his new CD (downloaded it for free, no way I would pay for it) all I can say is thank God those songs will not be on a Styx CD. There are a few people here who lead me to think this CD was going to be good. It sounds like Weird Al doing a Styx parody. I tried to like it but it really made me laugh a few times. That CNN song sounds like “Music Time” part 2 and the 2nd song on the CD is a bad “High Time” rip off. Do we really need to hear another song about his wonderful wife?????!!!!??? There are maybe 2 songs that were just okay. It is DDY at his cornball best and that’s not good.

When I see you in person I want you to look me straight in the eyes and tell me the truth of what you REALLY think of his cd, seriously. In fact, we'll listen to his cd together and I want to see your reaction!!

I bet that you DO like a few songs!!!
