Iron Maiden
A Matter of Life and Death (2006)
I love how Bruce verbally smacks down someone in the audience who had apparently been throwing stuff.

Say what you will about Coverdale selling out, but this track is one of the best metal tunes of all-time, in my opinion. The main riff kicks your teeth in and the laid back interlude sets the rest of the song up perfectly. The link is for the version from the "Live in the Still of the Night" DVD. It's tuned down but it still sounds great.

I totally agree Dave...a true classic...although the riff is maybe a bit over-influenced by Led Zep...but who cares? That middle section with the violins and the way it returns to the main part of the song...utterly brilliant.

Absolutely....and his sacking was especially weird given that Sykes could flounce around with the best of them and Campbell was no oil painting in any case...
Still...Coverdale did hire Steve Vai soon afterwards so they didn't lose the virtuoso element for long.

Vai is no doubt an immense guitar talent but he just didn't fit well, in my opinion. He could obviously play those Whitesnake songs backwards and forwards but his sound is just too recognizable as his own that it just didn't work for me.

True - but at least he was a better fit in Whitesnake than he was in Public Image Ltd. Remember this one?
