Neal's playing and his music is so beautiful--I WISH there was a way to get him to post some of the music I've heard is in a "vault" somewhere. Can you imagine if that is true? I wish he would start his own I-tunes kind of place and put them up for sampling or purchase or whatever. His and Perry's music takes me to "that place" that Lora talked about...

I was remembering the Bill Graham tribute that Steve, Jon and Neal played. I thought it was absolutely beautiful; simple, melancholy, moving, sweet...

I prefer "early era" Neal...when he had that "FIRE" in his belly and used to make his guitar SCREAM and wail!

Big Fro and all...that was when NS was at his finest...and man, was he great (and still is, btw).

Below is one of the MANY examples of why I think Luke is so great (not that NS isn't). He can mix up styles so easily...

Oh, and kiddies, be sure to stick around for the jazz section around the 3 minute mark I believe (check out Luke's comping for an example of his versatility).

Finally, I think you will find Luke's solo at the 5:30 mark...shall we say..."memorable". :wink:

Neil may have shown himself to be a backstabber and/or coward, but insofar as his guitar playing, he is one of the very best players to ever pick up the instrument.

He is incredibly gifted at playing outstanding guitar in multiple genres of music.

Is he a dick? Apparently so. But it doesn't change the fact that he is an all time guitar great.

Alex is a VERY underrated guitarist. Very instinctive player and in some ways..blows Neal's doors off.
Petrucci...just PHENOMINAL. The guy can play anything. He can play something emotional and simple and he can just plain SHRED. One of the best I've ever seen. I'd like to see a Schon/Petrucci guitar duel. THAT would be Fanfuckingtastic.

Just read this and it exemplifies everything I was trying to say:-) Everybody perceives differently, some like one guitarist over another, it's great that there are so many views on one thing, simply a human being playing a stringed instrument...Being of an ecclectic and relaxed nature I would rather see people just voicing who they like rather than trying to impress upon others that who they like is the best.
Variety is a brilliant thing :-)

As I said in a previous post, I think Neal is one of the greatest and most under-appreciated players around. With that said, I have to say that there are some other kick-ass players out there! While I don't know if I'd say he was "better", this is hands down my favorite solo of all time, by Key Marcello of Europe (formerly that is!). His playing on the Superstitious album is mind-blowing!!!

I know the video's a little cheesy, but if you don't like it...the solo starts at around 2:45. Check it out!

Yeah he is! They're one of the only bands I haven't seen live that's on my "must see" list! I've got a couple of their dvd's, all of their cd's (minus their last one) and love them! As big of a fan I am of their music, I'm not sure about the new dropped key albums! I bought the Start from the dark album, and it was a hard album to get into (at least for me). I think they've still got it even though Joey's lost a lot of his range, but I'm not sure about the new sound. Even though I enjoy John Norum, I think Key Marcello's a much better player! I haven't made up my mind about buying the newest album yet...we'll see!

dude I saw them 2 years ago too(Cleveland House Of Blues)and they kicked ass! ,,, their latest cd, is way different than their style but still a decent album,,, I think I still like their Wings Of Tomorrow the best though,,,,

Joey's album (A Place To Call Home) is one of the ones that I listen to the most.It's rare that I hear an album with every song being great.I can't skip not even one."For My Country",in particular,is such an amazing tune.Sweden should be proud!

It's a much better album than his second solo effort,although I like that one too.

I keep Joey in a very special place in my heart.He is the sweetest guy around and one heck of a live singer.

Youre right,,, I feel the same about his 1st cd... I can not skip a single song on that cd,, all great songs,, and I love "For My Country " and "Elsewhere"...
I was lucky to see him perform those songs live in Sweden back in 95/96 on few different occasions.
He is a nice guy,,, he even bought me a beer when we were at the club he played at , after his show!

I wasnt 2 impressed with his 2nd one either,,,, still good, but nothing like the 1st one....

Technically, Perry is his real last name. Perreira was his family name that was changed to Perry when they moved to the U.S., which was before he was born.

Wow...talk about shunning your heritage. I guess they didn't want to be portuguese....

I live in the largest Portuguese community in the USA, Fall River/New Bedford, MA.....there are more than enough Perreiras to make up for his name change.....and Furtados, Chaves, Alves, Ferreiras, Dias, Medeiros, Mello, Oliveira, Costa, Benevides, and Cordeiro..... :lol:

.. yep , it was you!! red kramer guitar and levi strap..(still use the strap today) for $100 bucks.. i wish i had it back ,, it played great and could take a lickin! .. you taught me how to play Shake ME by Cinderella.. :shock:
