Easily the worst song on the album, in my opinion.

Dude, NOBODY cops to liking Augeri era music here as a general rule. It ain't cool to now.
I was always outspoken against Augeri and Arrival from the get go. Never was a cheerleader over on BT. I had postings removed by the thought police over there, so I stopped posting (a looong time ago).
Spike wrote:Arrival is one of my least favorite Journey albums, probably only coming above Generations in their list of achievements (and I include the early prog-rock sets). It's not that I think it's terrible, just that it's bland. The mix is too muddy with the vocals too far down - it always sounds like it's fighting to get out of the speakers or cans. And no, it's not my player! Not one of its songs made it to my iPod; again through my indifference to them rather than hatred. This isn't a TG revisionist opinion, either; it never floated my boat. If "Journey" hadn't been on the label, it wouldn't have been played as much as it was. It was in fairly heavy rotation that first summer.

You're right on that one...It was one that was added to the U.S. release at basically the last minute, along with "Nothin' Comes Close", and it definitely sounds different, production-wise, from the rest of the album.

You sure you saw a live rendition of Augeri? Probably not.
Red13JoePa wrote:Still a terrific song, WGW. It was recorded at a different NYC studio (Avatar or The Power Station) than the rest of the record (except NCC which was The Plant in Sausalito) and the beginning of the song is a distorted recording of New York traffic (hung a mic out a studio window).
I'm privelaged enough to have a live version from 1999.

I'm pretty sure he was live. I remember Castronovo did Keep on Running and Mother,Father. He nailed them too!

Agreed...I like "Livin' to Do" the best on that album and like WGW about as well as "Higher Place".I'm privelaged enough to have a live version from 1999.
I believe I've got that as well. I'll have to check when I get home.

What year was this?

I can see that with either "Red 13" or "Generations" but "Arrival" is one of the better production jobs in their catalogue, in my opinion.

Doesn't help that Augeri can't carry a ballad. He's emotionless and soulless in his delivery. He sounds better with Tall Stories. He's more of a rocker at heart and has a weak ear for melody.
Sounds harsh, but it's my opinion.

Did you give him a fair chance?

But Steve shined brightly on this song, let's be honest for once and give some credit to the man instead of simply jumping at every opportunity to bash Augeri.
