Dennis' solo work that would have been a part of Styx

Postby styxfanNH » Thu Aug 09, 2007 12:02 am

Really a twist on other threads, and yes we have done this before but its been awhile

Which of Dennis solo work would have made it to a Styx album?

Disagree with Harry's Hands. Good solo song, but not a Styx song, especially for that time period.

I would add to your list

Dear Darling
Call Me
Southbound Ryan - still undecided on. Could be wrong time period though for when it was written.

and not sure if CNN would have made it.

Harry's Hands...

Postby kipthekid » Thu Aug 09, 2007 2:50 am

to me is a "follow-up" to Father O.S.A. and This Old Man. The bombast..the chorus...all say "Styx" to me.

"CNN" is VERY similar, IMHO, in song structure to "Rockin' the Paradise."

It depends what year it is. If between the years 1982 and 1997 then any of it could have been on a Styx record because he was basically calling all of the shots. Prior to that...unknown.

Crossing the Rubicon!!

Come on, first ten seconds you hear STYX-STYX-STYX.

I see it as a sequel to Boat on the River :)

OMG...you cannot be serious. What are you hearing that I am not. I love Suite Madame Blue, Come Sail Away, Grand Illusion, etc....I hear very little of that with Crossing The Rubicon....how can someone else hear the BEST song Styx or any of it's members have ever done? What am I missing?

It is BETTER than Suite Madame Blue.

The songs are very similiar, but I like Rubicon better.

I will ALWAYS think that Equinox was Styx's best album. I love the song Suite Madame Blue. With that said, Rubicon is better.

You cant compare it to The Grand Illusion. It is a different type of song. Rubicon blows it completely out of the water.

The only Styx song that may be as good in my opinion is Come Sail Away.

Different songs. Different inspiration for writing them. VERY different subject matter covered in each one. All great songs in my view.
