I would MUCH rather hear him play Born For Adventure, Golden Lark, A Song for Suzzanne, Why Me, Love At First Sight, Back To Chicago, Ballerina, Jennifer, Lonely Child & damn near anything or EVERYTHING off of 100 Years From Now.

But He'd rather play "Mr. Roboto, First Time, or A Love Foretold"

;)
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

UGH, I forgot about "First Time". I didn't get to hear that one live yet!! I think he played it for the first time live at the NYC BB King show. That should've (could've, would've, etc) been a #1 hit if Tommy didn't put his foot down and threaten to walk if it was released. UGH!

It's funny how many tease about "Mr. Roboto" and all the concerts it's the one that the crowd goes crazy at. Even when the current Styx has it in the medley (yes, I was there). Really!!!

There are a lot of things people like that aren't great (Britney Spears and Paris Hilton to name two).
The masses are asses. They don't know diddley.

First Time a number one hit? NO WAY. It would've ruined any credibility Styx had at that point. Terrible Terrible song. I'd rather they released Plexiglass Toilet as a single than that piece of crap... ugh, awful. Shit, EDDIE would've been a better tune and that's a terrible tune too.

Those things aren't inherently contradictory, of course.

I don't think there's any question that it would have at least cracked the top 10; prolly the top 5. It seems like most of their albums had no more than two to three singles each; so, I'm thinking, had "First Time" been released second, we would have either lost "Why Me" or "Borrowed Time" as a single release. I'm thinking it would have been "BT".. I still think "Lights" should have been a US single as well.

Suite, didn't you also mention that Tommy put his foot down over the release of "Haven't We Been Here Before" as well? That one totally makes no sense to me.

The guys could play "Babe" and "Best of Times" and such if they chose (but not record them for release), and Dennis could play "Renegade" and "Miss America" and "Fooling Yourself" if he wanted to. But why would he want to? He has more than enough hits that he wrote and sang, that he can make sound very much like the familiar recording. Why would he want to cheapen the quality of his show by dipping into songs that are not perceived as his? He would only suffer by comparison in the same way that ANYONE always suffers by comparison when they are competing with a performance that people have had stuck in their heads for decades. It would likely be people saying the same old shit we always say around here: "Dennis doesn't have enough of a 'rock voice' (whatever that means) to sing [fill in the blank]", or "I didn't like Glen doing Tommy songs before, so why should I like it now?" And so on and on and on and blah blah blah . . . LOL.

I WOULD like to see him pull out more "Lost Treasures", though. I think that's a really interesting concept and a cool way of trying to balance the needs of hardcore fans with casual fans. He's already doing "Castle Walls", I'd love to get other songs like "I'm OK", "Lords of the Ring" (which he sang on an early version if I remember right, and could probably sing JY under the table on that song, but most people don't know well enough to compare the performances), or "Why Me", or "Lonely People", "Nothing Ever Goes As Planned" . . . LOL, there's a lot of up-tempo Dennis stuff that he's not touching on yet that I would like to see as part of a future show. I'd also really love to see Styx mix it up a whole lot more.

I agree with what you say. Why do you think JY sings Lorelei then? Is it just because he co-wrote it?

Actually Gowan sang it at the very first when he joined, but it REALLY did not suit his voice at all and it got handed off to JY, who actually does a better job with it than I would have thought, honestly. Not Dennis, but not bad.
