You do realize that people born in Puerto Rico are United States citizens, right?
Well, that didn't help JSS get signed up with a major band/label. According to him, he wasn't able to land a big gig after the Malmsteen days because he didn't look American enough. He came across the same attitudes we're seeing right now about Arnel.

1) If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. That's the answer to your "if Jeff had not been born here" question.
2) MOST importantly, he does NOT have an accent.
3) Arnel is not the Asian SP. I don't think he sounds anything like him....similar range, but that's about it. I love the way people can so easily forget what a great ARTIST Perry was and trivialize his contribution to music by lumping him together with a lounge act.

Why protest the reporter or the article? He reported what he saw in regards to the two boards that he mentioned. We've all been painted with the same brush because we've allowed the loudmouthed racist morons among us to go unchallenged. When you sit back and say nothing for fear of being "unpopular" here or having the wrath turned on you then, IMO, you are condoning what is being said and deserve to be painted with the same brush.
However, I also agree that the threads should have not only been locked but deleted.

I don't know if Anel is going to read this board, but I'm going to go ahead and put MY apology on the board anyway, just in case he does. I want him to know that I'm sorry that all those awful things got said about him ,and I'm sorry that I didn't come to your defense in those terrible threads that were being posted about you. I know that must of hurt you and your family so badly to see all that on the boards. You did NOT deserve to be treated like that at all! I hope you can forgive a total stranger for not speaking up on your behalf.
Best wishes to you Anel in whatever you do!

Yo Cat! Pass the donuts. I think I'm a couple pounds shy of the fat designation for new posters!

was just trying to make a point. some seem to be so upset that j is even considering hiring someone not born in america. both sp & jss could have easily been born in different countries. arnel's accent should be mute... that can be taken care of with proper training. most people lose their accents when they sing. arnel just needs to enunciate certain words better.

A singer can have poor breath control and still have a great voice. Steve Walsh was a good example of that. The guy had one of the best voices in rock back in the 70s but his technique was poor and led to vocal problems down the road.

Because he referred to the posters as "racist Journey fans."
Duh.

I'm not crazy about Steve Walsh either... Sorry... Perry definitely spoiled me and my ears. The man was a trained singer from the getgo, and that level of control is, in my opinion, necessary to do the songs justice.

Sorry, Steve Walsh had an amazing voice back in the 70s and on into the early 80s. Sometimes there's something to be said for a more raw, untrained voice and Walsh had it in spades. If you're not a fan of his singing, that's fine, but that doesn't mean he didn't have a great voice. Same goes for Arnel.
