Whoooo doggie, now THERE'S some tracks! The Rock..... lord those were some great races.

Yes, they were, and NWilkes was even better. Now it just sits along the side of 421 looking like a kudzu garden. So sad.

Good start. I like having a track here in SoCal, but we do not deserve one.

How can California have 2 races a year and Darlington none?

Darlington has the Mother's Day weekend, which used to be VERY taboo in the sport. But hey -- we'll take what we can get.

I don't mind SoCal having a track, I just think that a few years back Nascar made a HUGE mistake in changing the schedules around.

Fontana's first race weekend belongs to Rockingham.
Fontana's second race weekend is historically and rightfully the Southern 500 in Darlington.

Pissed off alot of people with that move. One of the reasons why ratings are down so bad anymore.

I can argue tracks with you guys that you've never even heard of that not so long ago were equal in power with anything today.

Anyhow. I WARN any and all of you DO NOT argue Nascar with me unless you can prove your creds. I will tear you a new asshole.

Now, I will begin with dissecting this bullshit.

Just got back from Richmond.. I've probably been to 100 or so Cup races. My first was around 1975. I agree the only place for a labor day race is Darlington. I was at the final two. I look forward to talking with you in a day or two maybe.

48 is the favorite? Granted, he's got the best chance going into this, has had the best season. But he could be leading by 10 points going into Homestead and blow a tire, slam the wall, and end up 3rd.

Although, he will probably walk away from this the champ. Kind of turns my stomach, but then again its because I don't really like the Chase... at least not the past two years.

How can the Lowe's team not be the favourites? Granted, Jeff Gordon has/had a 450 point lead over the 48, and Gordon had the better season except for number of wins, but now that the chase starts, the 48 has a 20 point lead on the 24....the 48 has won 2 in a row, and in the last 7 races, 2 wins, 3 top 3's and two top 10's.

The "chase" was created for that stupid country dumbfuck Dale Earnhardt Jr. He can't win the points title, so they install a top ten playoff...he can't make that, so they increase it to 12 teams, and yet he still can't make it. Nascar is definitely biased towards the 8 team. I say fuck em. Nascar needs a well spoken, good looking guy like Johnson as it's new star; a Californian to boot.

Well, since Jr. isn't in the Chase, and Jimmie just gained 430 points on Jeff to go from basically eliminated to the lead, if I was one of those conspiracy nuts I could say it was Nascar's way of favoring Hendrick. In reality, it's Nascar's way of trying to keep an audience, (yes, a HUGE part of which belongs Earnhardt), from switching off Nascar, and turning on the NFL. And for the record, I like Jimmie. He's a local boy, and I work with some people who are personal family friends of his. But I can tell you I just left a whole bunch of race fans who think Knaus should be unemployed until next year or longer.

Wrong.

The chase was created to generate interest in the sport by way of a playoff system to bring in new fans in larger more metropolitan markets.
Dale Jr may be a country dumbfuck, but he's anything but stupid. I can't stand him personally, we've had several shouting matches at 10 O'Clock Charlie's in Mooresville.

The chase is actually biased towards the Hendrick powerhouses, by way of sponsorship dollars.

But you're right 48 is the favorite, I agreed with that from the start.

I am sorry BRG, I meant to say the increase from 10 to 12 was to ensure the 8 Nation got in...Sadly. he has no chance....until next year at Hendrick. And by the way, stop the Hendrick bashing. Roush Racing has 4 cars as well...Not Hendrick's fault Roush has Fords. Fords suck.

I'm not Hendrick bashing. I'm just prodding a little. Like I said, I claim no affiliation for personal reasons.
Ricky and I were big buds, I'd be a total ass if I bashed his Daddy's organization. I have nothing but respect for the Hendricks. But I loathe Jeffy-poo... however next year will usher in a whole new era, for which I am piqued to see how it plays out.

Not as long as JJ, JG, Kenseth, Edwards and Fat Tony are driving.

Jr will only be the third best driver at Hendrick.

I Hate Gordo too.

His proper nickname, as given by me at a sprint car race at Eldora two years ago in an alcohol induced truthful moment is,"Not-so-bony-Tony".

TorpedoBrows by far is better. Gordon's seen his glory days in the sport. Johnson brings a younger (slightly) approach to racing. Their styles are completely different as is the way they carry themselves as a representation of the sport. Johnson has the total package. (No pun intended... at least I don't think.) He's got that hunger, he's pretty much untouchable, his crew is probably the premier of all, and honest to God... his set-ups are far superior. Not every engine and chassis a team has is the same, one always has an edge over the others... who do you think they give that to? The #2 guy?

Gordon is washed-up and in my opinion has been an unwelcome imposition in stock car racing since day one.

I'm old-fashioned and not one to accept 'foriegners' into my southern sport, but they're here, and by damn, Jimmie's the best. (But Carl has his number. Give it a couple seasons.)

Carl beat him by a fender at LMS 3 years ago. JJ has 29 wins in 4.5 years...More than anyone, easily.

By the way, JJ has Tony's number, JG's number and especially, Jr's number.

I don't think Jimmie has anything to worry about as far as outside sources.

To sound a little cliche... its his championship to lose.

Though I'd LOVEEEEEE to see my dear Hangermouth (Carl) win, or at least place a shy second.

I grew up in Wisconsin. Got to see all them Southern boys come up every year and run our short tracks. Bobby Allison was there every summer. Davey, DW, even Earnhardt. A.J. too. I saw Rusty a LOT. Mark when he was 16. I could go within a 50 mile radius of my hometown and see racing 6 nights a week. A lot of times, two shows on Sunday. Oh, and I crewed on a couple of drag race teams. Super Stocks and Pro Stocks. All Hemis.
I always followed Nascar as much as I could, but it was usually a month or two old, wedged between arm-wrestling and cliff-diving on Wide World of Sports. So I finally went up to Michigan one year.
I like Junior. I DON'T like a lot of Junior nation. BUT, I always remember, if it wasn't for all of his fans, we wouldn't have live practice, and qualifying, and Trackside, and Raceday and all of the other Nascar we get BESIDES live races on TV with radios and scoring etc. on the computer. So I'm tolerant. lol.
And I dislike very few. I used to like Tony, even have a few of his shirts. But I've seen enough and even been involved in one of his tantrums to know he's a spoiled brat who's only in Nascar for the money. And yes, I KNOW he does FANTASTIC charity work. I'll give credit where credit is due. But IMO, he's a jerk.
I'm sure that'll give you something to work with. lol.

To each his own. I always tell people racing is like baseball. It looks boring as hell. But you can get into it just a little, or you can get into every single nuance with each pitch or corner. If you take a little time to understand it, it's fascinating. In fact, the simple act of the car going around the track IS very often the most boring part of the race. But there is SO MUCH more. Tell me any other sport where you can listen in to the coach and players discuss their strategy. Or one player say he's going to "get that motherfucker". You can hear all this and more, with a scanner. Actually, there are so many things going on at once, you miss a lot of it, because you're following your own team.

Oh man... I miss Adam so much. I'll never forget the first time I met him. It was like 1990 or so, I was a little girl, he was about 10... it was at Bristol for the Spring race. That year it was brutally cold, and I had lost my jacket somewhere. So Adam helped me look for it and when it couldn't be found he gave me one of his sweatshirts sitting back at the hauler, emblazoned with a big "Mello Yello" logo (gee I wonder why). I cherished that thing. He was one of the nicest people you'd ever know.

As for the next generation (I guess this is generation #4 we're speaking of)...

Justin (Labonte) is back around here now racing late models at the dirt tracks. Doubt he'll race Nascar.
Stephen (Wallace) races Rusty's busch car and just turned 20. It will be a few years before he's considerably Cup material.
Ricky (Hendrick) will always be missed as much as Adam, but his daughter is the cutest little thing, she just turned two.

While we're on the subject, feel free to donate to the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Adam's memory!! :)

First you bellow about being an expert, then you say something like that after the season he just had?

Yeah, ok.

And, again, I could care less that you don’t like him - there’s plenty to not like about Gordon. But at least keep it real.
You may WISH he was washed up, but that doesn’t make it so.

I do think he’s lost a step. Maybe lost the hunger, I don’t know. But he’s still one of the best drivers out there, like it or not.

Oh, and I’m just a little bit jealous. Sounds like you’ve had quite the backstage life. Pretty cool. I’d love to hear more stories like the one about Adam (and, yes, what a tragedy! But also how great is it the way his parents have honored him?!).

Blue Radio Girl wrote:

And I wouldn’t count JR out either. I’m not a fan, but he drove the hell out of his car this year. And if not for 4 or 5 engine failures, he would have had a great season. With Hendrick motors and money, and a little luck, he might just finally get at championship. I honestly think 24, 48 and 20 would have to have terrible luck for it to happen, but luck either way seems to be a big part of this sport.
Of course you have to have the talent to capitalize on the good luck, and I think we’ll finally see if Jr at least has that.

And speaking of foreigners, lol. What do you make of Franchitti coming to Nascar? I personally just love to watch anyone who can drive, but I wonder about the Montoya/Franchitti affect on Nascar fans…

San Diego Gary wrote: But I can tell you I just left a whole bunch of race fans who think Knaus should be unemployed until next year or longer.

Lol, there’s a rumor that he’s the 'Karl Rove of Nascar'. With the implication that he’s very smart/crafty, & that he’ll do “anything” to make sure his guy wins. Any truth to that one?

I think my biggest complaint about Nascar is how the corporate sponsors are ruining the sport. You’d think they’d get that cool sells, not making all of the drivers white bread carbon copies that spew sponsor names.

I don’t remember the comedian, but he described a Nascar driver right after sex, mentioning the names of the condoms, etc… lol it was hysterical, and so dead on.

I personally love watching Edwards drive, and love that he's such a nice guy. But it would be pretty boring if all of the drivers were like him and Johnson. You have to have the talented villains to provide the conflict, the spice... and that's where Gordon is king, and Stewart, Montoya, Kyle Bush etc, all excel. They all have personality issues that rub many fans the wrong way, and then they have the nerve to be brilliant drivers, lol.

And, of course, Gordon is the poster child of drivers that fans love to hate.

Lol, again, I’m a strange Nascar fan. Bottomline for me is that I just really love great driving, and a lot of today’s hotheads are some of the best drivers out there.

'Course, then there's Edwards, who will drive just as hard and dirty as Stewart, but leaves the battle on the track.
To me, he's the one who is the "whole package," & he's quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

blah, blah, blah..... lol fun to find fellow Nascar fans.

I like your input frfksakes, you know your shit.

I stand by what I said about Gordon though. And Junior. You are totally within rights to disagree and call me out on it, that's the beauty of the whole thing. I guess just from a stand point of looking at Gordon 5-10 years ago, and looking at him now, his glory days have gone. Sure he still runs well and wins races. I guarantee you if he were with Morgan-McClure, BAM, any of the lower end teams he'd soon be Derrick Cope #2. Junior isn't going to take himself serious enough to get to a points championship. He'll have a decent shot being with Hendrick going into next year's chase, assuming he makes it. Next year will be a probable rocky transition. He knows it. He's said he doesn't care if he ever wins a championship, and he doesn't care, he just wants to win races.

Juan Pablo is a cool guy. I'm not hellbent determined to hate anyone from anywhere racing. More power to them. I'm just partial to the roots of the sport, which goes along with what you pointed out about the sponsorships and corporate bullshit being as/is. The major shift was in 2004, they went and catapulted away from the grassroots. It went fine for about a year, and now they're beginning to see that, yeah, people from all walks of life like racing, but the support they damaged from the homebase in all that has caused them major suffering. I'm all for change, but I'm just overly nostalgic and miss seeing the races from 20 or so years ago.

Fun to find you too. 8)
