...I felt encouraged by the success we had in Canada. Plus I have a gold album for (solo album) "Desert Moon" and a platinum one for "A Hundred Years From Now". I have nothing like that from my solo career in the States, so that's pretty cool

Must be talking about his live CD which went platinum. You would think if 100 years went gold or platinum it would be on his site with pics, etc.

This link is from the Canadian version of the RIAA. "One hundred years from now" is not listed as gold or platium on this site yet, but they are not showing the September results yet either.

It could be that it has gone Platinum in Quebec. There is a Quebec organization that certifies gold, platinum, etc for Quebec. I believe the sales numbers to achieve the levels is lower.

Don't get me wrong, I am not criticizing Dennis in any way, its the way the same item is used to represent different things.

Except that Quebec market, because of the majority french population, is often measured as its own market within Canada when it comes to books, music, and movies (but is also included in Canadian numbers). For example, 95% of Canadian made movies don't make a blip on the Canada wide weekly or annual charts. However, Canadian movies make up a significant portion of the Quebec charts and Canadian movies (typically in french) that do well in Quebec make money there. All that to say it is a valid market to measure on its own.

It's also done respective to population. There are a lot more people in the United States than there are in Canada - or even Quebec. It wouldn't make sense for a platinum record to be 1,000,000 copies sold in a country where there are... say, half a million people. Not that this is the case in Canada specifically, I'm just making an example.

I guess no matter how many copies of "One Hundred Years From Now" are sold in Canada, there will need to be a little astrix by it to designate that it "only sold" to a certain segment of the Canadian population and possibly "isn't really gold/platinum after all."
