The analysis of his new music was so interesting to read, but the comments about the song that should have been on Kilroy, what Kilory was meant to be, debunking the myths about it and the tour I found quite revealing.

There was so much there to take in and there was ground he had never covered before, to my knowledge, in any prior interview.

To be fair, I think Sterling's book goes into detail about what Kilroy was meant to be.

Bugsy, I agree with you. I have said many times in this forum that the Kilroy show I saw in New Orleans and the one described by the former Styx Mgt on BTM were completely different. Good interview Dennis.

Yogi was at one of those Texas shows, right, Yogi? He wrote an excellent eyewitness account of that show that pretty much jibes with what Dennis says in the interview. It is somewhere on this Styx board.

What I found interesting, and always wondered about, was that they contemplated just doing a straightforward show at those venues. No Kilroy stuff. (And, Sterling, if that was in your book, I apologize. May have missed it.) Anyway -- woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Based on the other talent at those Texas shows, they probably should have returned to the straight ahead rock show, but I guess that is neither here nor there.

Better judgement did not prevail that evening. Styx at that time was not a good fit with the rest of those bands but when you see a BIG PAYDAY what are you going to do? I don't know if "people leaving" was a slap at the band or just tired/drunk/hot people not wanting to sit through a 14 min. film about robots and hear a taped version of Mr. Roboto.

In my 2nd interview with DDY he does talk about how Roboto was never meant to be a single but it tested well, and how there were no rockers on Kilroy, etc. So some of it isn't new, but it was a very revealing interview. DDY seems to be opening up a bit more.

And let's face it, anyone who thinks that had Styx done a more formal rock show - even if just for the stadium gigs - would have saved them is just flat out wrong. They were headed for a collapse. Kilroy certainly accelerated it, but it was in the cards.

I agree about your latter point, Allan. I think they were done no matter what they would have chosen to do at those stadium gigs.

I loved your interviews with Dennis (and hope more to come!), Allan. I had not read, though, that they actually considered chunking the Kilroy thing at those big outdoor events and giving a straighforward concert.

It was also interesting to read what he said about the songs on the album. Particularly about "Renegade." Interesting.
