And Styx didn't exactly broadcast the news that DDY was no longer with them, did they? Better to clam up and sell tickets, hoping that no one would notice.

DDY wussed out on the tour because he had some kind of light aversion disorder with his eyes. Since that time JY has been bad-mouthing him.

Actually, by mentioning DDY at all in any advertisements or interviews, there is a very defined line in that/ I dunno what Styx' (TS, JY, CP) legal representation was exactly, but the slightest mis-quote or sound-byte would have resulted in another law-suit, which no one wanted... Not even DDY.

It wasn't really about ticket sales, tho admittedly, I'm dead certain it did cause Styx to maintain current ticket sales... However, I don't think too many people would have said "screw it, I ain't going because of no DDY" Even when TS wasn't in the band for EOTC, there was still the "Curious factor" for a lot of people.

To expand on that a little, I've seen at least 4 posters just in this thread alone who seem to be squarely in DDY's camp and not the band... Why continue to be a part of a "BAND BB," if you don't support them? The only purpose is to stir up drama for amusement.

Padawan? Padawan?! I've been a Master Jedi (Elder) since 2004 on Star Wars Galaxies. I was the most hunted Jedi on the Flurry Server in 2004-2007 and had the highest Bounty on any Galaxy 4.5Million. I'm one bad mofo. :P

But it don't take a genius to see where the venom is coming from and why. A few people are a little butt sore over Dennis being booted from the band... I suggest some of these @$$holes buy some stock in KY Jelly to relieve some of that anal tension because it is adversely affecting their mental capacity to rationalize thought before the $h!t flows from their thoughts or what passes for thoughts.

I liked DDY as a musician, I like all the members of the band, but the simple fact of the matter is, DDY was and is a glory-hog and egotistical. He put down the critics who put them down instead of just letting it go. DDY is the one responsible for keeping STYX out of the hall of fame, because he couldn't think before he spoke, just like some people here. Hi Raja, I'm talking to you.

Styx has become more mainstream and more a part of Americana since DDY left. Before DDY left the band, how many movies, TV shows, Commercials were Styx or their music included in? How many since 1999 when Dennis was uncerimoniously booted? Yes, Styx had more radio success in the 70's and 80's, but those were the times. Even if DDY were still in Styx now, it's HIGHLY doubtful that he could produce another American top 10 hit in todays market.

You act like DDY is YOUR biggest supporter, as if he's done something for you. Maybe he was your first wet-dream, who cares?! I don't, but go find some DDY BB and have a ball, meet some real friends. You're a joke and pathetic. You know ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, about anyone remotely related to the band most likely. You prolly caught a sweaty towel from DDY back in 1981 and think you had some kinda of "magical moment" with him that no one else can understand.

Sad part is, you're prolly older than me chronologically, but mentally, you are decades behind. Grow up, don't you think it's about time?

Wow..this newbie is quite intense....As Frankie says, "Relax"..

As intense your post was, I think it is interesting. But I do take exception for your 2 of your comments about DDY 1) keeping Styx out of the Rock and Roll HOF. DDY has nothing to do with it. The HOF is full of egotistcal jerks that wil never induct anyone like a Styx or Journey. Its the genre of music they played that is keeping them out - not one member. 2) Styx actually got hot in commercials and movies during the 1996 reunion - VW ads, Adam Sandler, South Park - that all happened around 96 and 97. They were also featured prominently on Regis, Today, Fox Breakfast, etc. with the original lineup in support of the 96 and 97 tours.

Wow, been a while since I was referred to as a "newbie"... anyway I'll give you some credit on the HOF issue, however, DDY's mouth is a huge reason they won't get in, HOWEVER, if Styx were to ever get in, it will be because since '99 the various versions of Styx have been doing their best to give not just hardcore fans what they want, but trying to once again appeal to the masses.

Most of the ads we remember with Styx VW, and Big Daddy, and SP were around 99, just before/after Brave New World. VW and SP were both pre-DDY's departure in 98. Big Daddy came out in 99 and DDY was already out of the band, tho he was most likely in on the discussion to use their music. So not sure we can really claim that is was DDY, as opposed to the new direction of Styx and their attempt to gain momentum and fans. Post DDY, Styx has constantly had notable mentions in the media and 99% of it has been positive.

You are so full of shit dude it is pathetic. Get your fucking facts straight.

DDY was the one that was instrumental in Big Daddy happening. If DDY had not been involved do you ever think that the new lineup would have let the Best of TImes and Babe be the two featured songs in the movie? Oh guess you forgot about that, didn't ya?

And the comment about this version of Styx giving the masses what they want? Are you on coke just like Tommy Shaw? They only play 2-3 out of their 8 biggest songs in concert. Yeah, that is really giving the masses what they want instead of some ego driven "we're hard rockers - so here's Shooz!" crap fest.

And your blistering ignorant statement about DDY's mouth and the ROR HOF is full of shit. Please provide references as to where critics have said, "I am specifically not voting for Styx because of Dennis DeYoung.".

Get the fuck out of here if all you are going to do is come in here with lies.

Please don't take this the wrong way, because I'm not on one side or the other, and my book is probably widely regarded as the worst piece of exposure Dennis ever received, because of what was said about him by a few people. Even so, the notion that Dennis is responsible for the band not getting in the Hall of Fame is absurd at best. The HOF does not recognize this genre, period. And for the record - again without taking sides - it was JY, not Dennis, who had a personal falling out with Wenner at Rolling Stone, which arguably caused much of the way in which Styx was singled out for special abuse by that magazine. Truth is - from having dealt with the band in several different incarnations - this is a band in which most of the members, as well as management, have little sense of how to deal with the print media, and little inclination to do so. Some of the way their print career has unfolded has to do with the disinclination of the print media to deal fairly with this kind of music, and some of it comes from the fact that the band members themselves don't understand how to play the print game for the most part. To say it is the fault of any one person is a gross oversimplification.

As far as Styx having a higher mainstream media profile now than when DDY was in the band . . . HUH!??? Is that your true perception? That's bizarre. They can't get written about anywhere in the mainstram now. There was a confluence of events around the late 90s that conspired to make Styx a hotter property for a minute again, but even the pieces of exposure that Dennis was not directly a part of had a lot to do with his era. Even now - and this is true for Dennis as it is true for Styx - when there is a crucial piece of exposure, it is usually the result of the past, and not the present. And I don't mean that as disparagement to either side, it's just the way the business goes. Both Styx and Dennis are, for the most part, under the radar of mainstream media now, which is why they can get the odd booking on the morning shows, or radio, but not prime time TV anymore. And the movie placements they get are all old songs; it's not like TV and movies are playing songs from CYCLO or 100 Years From Now. To argue otherswise is to lose an argument, LOL. The truth is, the past continues to define the present and make it possible, for BOTH of these acts, as it always is with "Classic" or "Oldies" acts. They're lucky to be in that position.

OK, that's my two cents. Carry on!
