I shelled out the big bucks for Louisiana Public Broadcasting and got us a floor table complete with wine and cheese and tuxedo waiters/waitresses. And we got to go backstage and meet the man and his lovely wife. This was my first time seeing him solo and actually the last time I saw him in that building was 1981 for the PT tour.
The concert was everything all of you have been boasting about in here, complete with the Baton Rouge cajun orchestra, DDY's 5 piece band and backup singers. No Glen, so that was a little bit of a bummer. But no complaints here. The man can still out sing anything on the radio today. I also got to hear two songs I never heard Styx do live, Castle Walls and Pieces of Eight. The Huntchback songs went over very well with a mostly older (40 ish) crowd, standing ovations for both songs. The new songs were 100 years from now and Save Me. I had a chance to purchase the new CD (Candadian import), but I am holding out for the American release. An older couple who sat at our table was there because a relative could not make it. He was not familiar with Dennis or Styx. After Mr. Roboto, he wanted to know what that was all about. Ever try to tell somebody about Kilroy who had no clue. I laughed and told him it would take the rest of the night to explain. Nice coulple, I think the music was a little to loud for them.
The meet and greet went quick and smooth. I thought someone on this site mentioned that he won't shake hands with anyone, due to some germ phobia (ala Detective Monk, "Wipe please"). He shook everyone's hand and was extremely cordial and gratious to all. I managed to babble that after the fab four Styx was always my favorite band. He and I exchanged our favorite Beatle albums. The wife knew I would be star struck so she got him to sign the backstage passes. I actually had a couple of minutes to talk to Suzanne about her crib page. Very nice lady. She was celebrating a birthday recently and turned 59. Sure does not look it. All in all a wonderful night, one you will always remember.
Show/night highlights:
- accapella version of show me the way, brought the house down
- hearing pieces of eight live
- slapping DDY's hand during the end of Come Sail Away (ony one to do so)
- Checking out his other female backup singer (don't tell Mrs Lord) forgot her name, what a set of pipes
- hearing Desert Moon live
- The meet and greet
I had wanted to mention to him to try and slip Born for Adventure into his tour, but got caught up in the moment and forgot. Got to go visit the releatives for a few days, everyone have a great turkey day, be checking back soon. Domo Arigoto

I am so lousy remembering the names, the guest male and female vocalist were great. The guy had long hair, average build, he only came out for the tunes he did lead vocals on. The lady vocalist was out for several numbers. Come to think of it, they might have both joined in on Come Sail at the very end.

You can see a lot of him in this Rocking the Paradise Youtube video. He got himself a trim. Good rendition of the song.
