Tommy has taken the Green plunge this year. It started while Styx was on tour and one day they realized how much stuff they were throwing away and progressed to using biodiesel when they could get it. It appears that he has found a way to get access to it while on the Shaw Blades dates. At Chicago, Jack and Tommy made a quip about it, but it makes more sense with this blog. Tommy also mentioned in a recent article somewhere that they were adding the solar panels to the reconstruction at his home.

Wow, who pissed in your cornflakes this morning?

Someone asked the question and someone answered. Oviously, someone cared or they never would have asked.

Take a Midol and grab a nap, you should stop feeling bloated and cranky soon. Puberty sucks when you're confused and no one will talk with you. You're parents are ashamed of you, the other kids pick on you, hell, I bet even the other nerds poke fun at you. Sucks to be you.

He wishes it sucked to be him. With his mom yelling at him and his keyboard all sticky, his only hope is when Dennis gives his spiel before the Grand Illusion.

It only makes sense for Stynx to go green, considering how much green stuff they've smoked over the years. Too bad they can't go 'white' because that would fit in perfectly with Tommy and JY's previous cocaine issues.

surely that wasn't about drugs. dennis would NEVER sing about anything of the sort. they're illegal, ya know, and he's such a moral and righteous person- he'd never stoop down to the level of heathens like JY and tommy (as per snowblind). and how about chuck for that matter. he's a homosexual. he should burn in hell like the rest of them! I don't know HOW someone like dennis ever managed to coexist with the likes of them for so many years.

I think it's called sarcasm.... with Stmonkeys showing that Dennis is no higher on the pedestal thanTommy and JY. OF course for some that is different.

Hmm, very interesting. I hate that diesel smell, too. But, it makes me wonder about a few things.
Is it cheaper to make? Cheaper to buy? For like truckers and the cars that use diesel?

Either way, it is cool that some people are concerned about our environment and trying to do something to change things.
If I had more money to spare, I'd try to do the solar power thing! But, cloudy days would suck. Although I've read there are ways to store solar power.

ONe of the issues with biodiesal is that it use food resources. Some of it is made with corn, sugarbeets, etc and when those resources are used for biodiesel then food prices increase. Corn is used for biodiesel then there is less corn used for food; less corn for food means higher prices for food and it also means higher prices for feed corn, meaning higher prices for meats. The trickle down effect is huge as you can see how this transfers. The problem isn't the increased food prices, the problem is that right now additional crops aren't being grown for biodiesel. I would guess that in time this would change.

This is kinda doubtful, as corn is I believe the most abundant of all sources, followed by sugar. Almost everything we eat today contains some form of Corn byproduct, in-fact Florida's Governor is even proposing some new Bill about alternative fuel sources for cars made by Sugar.

Excerpt from: http://www.flgov.com/release/9213

"Governor Crist also called for Florida to become a leader in renewable and alternative energies such as ethanol and biofuels, solar and wind energy. Florida has the greatest capacity in the nation to produce ethanol because of a year-long growing season and robust agricultural lands. Florida’s sugar cane and citrus industries have great potential to become a statewide asset when converted to ethanol. In this way, energy diversification can be vital to Florida’s economic development and security."

Corn and sugar? I remember when a person could use sugar to mess up someone's fuel tank. How ironic.

I'm not a farmer but, don't they have to rotate their crops? I mean, they can't grow the same thing in the same place year after year.
Or maybe they'd just rotate it with the sugar. Still, interesting.

Yes they do, but if they always do that, then there is no change. The Global markets for everything, mostly in China) is increasing at a rate greater than expected and that in part is utilizing vrops that were once plentiful, shorter than they have been.

Biodiesel vs. Ethanol

Postby BidForGreen » Sat Dec 01, 2007 2:30 pm

Everyone: My name is Dale and I run www.bidforgreen.com. We provide quality biodiesel and other green products to everyone, including the music and film industry. You are discussing a very reasonable topic that gets confused.

Ethanol is made from corn and sugar. Just think of anything that you could turn into moonshine - corn, sugarcane, sorghum - and that could also be turned into ethanol. Ethanol is what caused corn prices to go so high this year, but in the future it should be able to be made from about any living material. This is called cellulosic ethanol, and could be made from tree limbs or grass clippings. Until then, ethanol will be expensive and requires a big conversion.

Biodiesel, on the other hand, is a much better alternative. It can be run in existing diesel engines, has essentially the same performance, and can be made from a number of sources, including: soy oil, canola, sunflower, chicken fat, beef tallow, pork renderings or waste vegetable oil. However, it is NOT straight waste vegetable oil, which sounds cool but is actually WORSE for the environment and is now illegal to use as fuel.

Think of it this way: if you can drink it, it's ethanol. If you can cook with it, you can turn it into biodiesel.

There are biodiesel producers all over the country. Some of them are better than others. What we are doing is helping Tommy and Jack get good quality biodiesel.

Biodiesel reduces greenhouse gases, reduces asthma- and cancer-causing agents found in diesel fuel. Our company is working to develop biodiesel from sustainable sources, meaning that people don't just cut down forests to plant biodiesel feedstocks.

By the way, Tommy has been really great to work with. We deal with movie stars and rock stars all the time, but Tommy has been one of my favorites to work with.

Hi, Dale. Thanks for the explanation. How did you know I know how to make moonshine?! :P

I couldn't watch that whole interview; it takes too damn long to load on dial up. But, I did read the info you have on your site.
It is all very interesting. The main thing I didn't understand is why they call biodiesel "renewable energy"?
It actually made me wonder about alot more than that but, that was the main thing I didn't understand.

"renewable"

Postby BidForGreen » Sun Dec 02, 2007 11:49 am

In the future, the hope is that biodiesel will mainly come from:

1) Well-maintained farms which produce high-yield oilseed crops
2) The grease your french fries were cooked in
3) Other waste products like pork lard and chicken fat
4) Algae (which is the Holy Grail).

You could produce these things again and again and not deplete anything (if you farm correctly). That's what we mean by renewable.

Good to have your input...
