Fake - got a son with allergies to the darned things. Before that, they were real. But you bet that my fake tree LOOKS real and not one of those cheap ones that look like Charlie Brown's tree. :-)

Neither......tress have nothing to do with the Birth of Christ. besides, real trees produce oxygen.

But I suppose if the meaning of Christmas revolves around ensuring the economy gets the boost it needs, and the race to acquire the most material things, then I suppose a plastic tree seems most appropriate.

Sorry, but I'm really down on what the holiday has become. I'm cutting way back, and donating the savings to the local food pantry.

The real meaning of Christmas is lost indeed. Walmart putting out Christmas decorations in July, Now it is a year long sale, instead of the one month were we get ready for "Santa" and the birth of Christ.
With 3 kids it is harder to cut back. Being Unemployed last two Christmas's we cut back a lot. This year, with me working, hopefully we can spend a a liitle more on the kids this year, and not go all out on every family member like many years in the past. The simpler the better-ERIC

The original Christmas doesn't either.

I just like it because it's a nice time of year, decorations are put up, and Starbucks has their seasonal gingerbread flavoring in the specialty drinks.

An admirable sentiment. One can choose to allow the commercialism to overtake them, or one can enjoy the feelings that the holiday hopes to bring. It is what you make it, be it "most material things" or donating to the local food pantry. I think the trick is to find the balance.

Wishing you and those you love (and all here) a holiday spent cherishing that which you believe makes it special.

I'm surprised the wacko greenies haven't come out to say we are contributing to global warming by cutting down those poor, defenseless Christmas trees. How much CO2 would have each tree cut taken out of the atmosphere.

Ah crap...what was I thinking. I probably just gave them an idea!

I hear what you are saying .
But try and tell this to a 5 year old.

Since we are hosting christmas ,with a number of kids invited,we will probably get a real tree.
It does seem like a waste though.

On a serious note, if you prefer artificial to real (I agree about it being a waste, and it always makes me a little sad seeing all the trees thrown to the curb after the holidays are over), you can gets some really good deals at Target or Lowes - some are so nice, it's hard to tell if they are real of fake, especially if you go apeshit with lights like we do. Then all you need to buy is a couple Yankee Candles. They're about $25.00 each, but they last forEVER, and they smell fantastic. I have Balsam Fir, and it. is. amazing. They have many, many others, however: Pine, Wreath, etc. All of them have a great Christmasy smell that will fill your whole house.

You can also try eBay and other retailers like Hallmark stores who sell Yankee candles.

just a note of trivia ( which it wouldnt be if it happened to you.....)

average time for an artificial tree to completely burn........32 seconds.
I just read this in Todays Wisconsin State Journal - Daybreak Section.

Yikes ! be careful out there.
