Jacksonville is overrated. They're a solid physical team, with a QB who doesn't hurt his team by making mistakes. That said, their receivers are terrible, and they simply don't have the experience to beat NE or Indy! They blew their load when they beat Pittsburgh (who I think is a FRAUD of a team)! San Diego scares me a bit, just because I think Tomlinson is a stud of a player. The one thing I do agree with you on is that if the Patriots can't beat the Giants (and I certainly think they can), there is no way they'll lose again, so I'd definitely trade this game for another Lombardi trophy!

CT has never been "middle ground". Eastern CT has always rooted for Boston teams, and Western CT has always rooted for NY teams. I guess if you're in the dead center of the state, I'll go along with the "middle ground" :twisted:

A couple comments:

Brady is a good dude and a helluva QB. I don't understand why people would dislike him other than jealousy.

NE is a little soft against the run.

Gumbel is atrocious.
Collinsworth isn't bad IMO.

Jealousy is usually a big reason people are despised. I personally wouldn't want to tackle Brandon Jacobs...That guy is a LOAD! I told you Gumbel was horrible! This fucking dude makes my ears bleed, listening to him! No wonder so many cable companies don't want the NFL Network :twisted:

Paterno is 81 and under contract for 2008 but has subtly began angling for an extension... .

Myself, I'd love to see them go the Fl St route and name a successor with Paterno able to roll his deal over every year until he doesn't feel like it.

Oh, and the Pats: I can't deny it any longer. Their 16-0 makes them the best team in NFL history especially to be down double-digits in the 4th q w/ everything on the line and just explode.

Well, there is certainly no guarantee that the Patriots are going to win the Super Bowl. I personally didn't think a team would EVER go undefeated in today's NFL, because the pressure is UNRELENTING! Hell, I actually heard a reporter ask Belichick about going undefeated this season, after they blew out the Chargers in WEEK TWO! The pressure is only going to increase, with each passing game. I feel like the Colts are the only team in the AFC, who can score enough points to keep pace with the Patriots, and I personally wouldn't be stunned if the Colts beat the Patriots. Even though it would be presented as such, it really wouldn't be that big of an upset, considering the Colts are 13-2 and a VERY good team!

The NFC doesn't scare me at all, because I think the best teams in the NFC are VERY beatable. I respect the hell out of Favre, but he makes a TON of mistakes. The Seahawks have average receivers, and Shaun Alexander, who decided to stop playing football, after signing his big contract. Then there are the Cowboys, who the Patrtiots flat-out toyed with in Dallas, so they definitely don't scare me on a neutral field.

Having said that, the one thing I feel gives an NFC team a chance, if the Patriots get to the Super Bowl, is the media. By that point, EVERYONE (including me) is going to be sooooooo tired of hearing about the undefeated thing. If the Patriots make it to the Super Bowl, the team they play against will hardly be mentioned during the two weeks, leading up to the Super Bowl. They will clearly view that as a sign of huge disrespect, even though it won't be coming from the Patriots. Football is a VERY emotional sport (the most emotional, in my opinion). I also think any team the Patriots play from the NFC will be at least a two touchdown underdog, and that is the ultimate disrespect. Look what happened when the Patriots were a two touchdown underdog to the unbeatable Rams in 2001! ANYTHING can happen in the NFL, so it will be interesting to see how this all plays out!

The 2007 Patriots would beat the 1972 Dolphins by 21 points if they played each other. Even the 2007 Colts would probably beat them. The '72 Fins were underdogs in the Super Bowl that year, so that alone tells you they weren't that great of a team.

By the way, it was great to watch a game in Week 17 with two playoff-bound teams playing their starters the whole game. Nothing I hate more than coaches who rest players in Week 17. Those game always suck.

I agree with you, 100%. I actually think many teams in today's NFL would beat the 1972 Dolphins. They were a good team, with no dominant parts (hence the no-name defense). The bottom line is that in spite of Slander's claim that the NFL is "watered down", the guys, today are just physically better, on EVERY level! Now, one can argue that the teams of the early 70's weren't "artificially enhanced" with steroids and HGH, and I certainly wouldn't disagree. The thing that has ALWAYS made their 72 record a complete sham to me is the schedule they played. Their opponents had a .350 winning percentage, and I suspect most NFL teams would do exceptionally well against that ridiculous of a schedule! I honestly think the 2007 Patriots would beat the 72 Dolphins, by a lot! Bill Parcells had a segment on ESPN this week with Chris Berman, where they debated how the Patriots of today would do against the best teams, ever. Now, like all of those segments, it's pure speculation, but Parcells also said the 72 Dolphins wouldn't have a chance. Two points about Parcells...The guy knows football, and he is very good friends with Don Schula, and always has been, so he certainly wasn't being biased. In fact, he thought the only team that would even come close to this version of the Patriots (and he still said they would lose) were the 78 Steelers.

I think if they lose in the playoffs, like Dean is predicting, they won't be remembered much, by anyone, outside of New England. If a team out there is good enough to stop them, I'll tip my cap to them. I know this...If a team beats them, they'll earn it, because this team just doesn't beat itself, and Brady is the least affected by pressure of ANY athlete I've ever seen in my life.
