Dennis is the greatest

Postby 7 Wishes » Sat Jan 05, 2008 1:47 pm

Now, I have a soft spot for anthemic Broadway musicals since my own father is a composer, but...now that I finally got the Hunchback CD...gotta say, Dennis is one of the best songwriters out there, and there will never be anyone else with a voice that beautiful. Pure gold. We were damned lucky to have him with Tommy in the same band...two of the best singers in history, in the same band.

Unfortunately Dennis had to have that Michael "Mighty Mouse" Eldred sing a lot of the songs live and he butchers them, which is tragic, because the Hunchback CD is amazing on its own.

This was an amazing work, considering it is essentially a demo CD. Beautiful music and vocals, for sure.

I am going to have a hard time hearing anyone else sing songs like "Esmerelda" and "Who Will Love This Child", even if they do have good voices because I don't believe there are many singers who infuse the passion into the vocals like Dennis does. It is one of the things that makes him stand out from other really great singers.

Of the two singers who have performed with his orchestra shows, I much prefer Amick Byram's vocals on the Hunchback songs to Michael Eldred's.

Dennis is a goofy looking dude, but what a talent. Any chance of a one-off reunion in the future, froy?

Froy, do you know if The Hunchback will be on DVD or is that a question for the crib?

Thanks

I have yet to hear Amick (are there clips somewhere?) sing.

Gulp.. do me and Froy agree on something? Does Froy think Eldred butchered his songs as well?

Isn't "butchered" a little harsh with this? I mean, he might not be your cup of tea but he's a classically trained vocalist. Its not like, say, Gowan singing Grand Illusion.

Not talking about Gowan here, we're talking about Mr. Eldred.

I have no problem with Mr. Eldred's renditions of the songs. I like Byram's as well, though I find I prefer Eldred. To each his/her own.

Always having to throw in a jab at current Styx huh. The post starts about how great Dennis is with the Hunchback CD and you have to add a stupid comment about Gowan. We know your distaste for current Styx. What other point are you trying to get across?

Oh I forgot, when you possibly classify as a half-witted self obsessed attention-grabber you do things like this.

Thats a bit harsh, isn't it? Name calling? I thought only "Rajah" did that!
