Very nice Sterling, thanks for posting. I always lumped Lisa in with that Rolling Stone crowd, she probably trashed Dennis the next day when she reviewed Desert Moon (LOL). Yeah the article introducing it is more of the same tired perception dribble that Dennis talks about in the interview. He comes across as the copmlete opposite of arrogant as the article tries to state. Concerning the NY Times Article, just like Fred Thompson said during one of the debates, imagine the Times getting something wrong. Seriously, I think if that article were to run today, it would not have carried the merit it did back in the 70s. I think a lot of people mistrust the Times today and for good reason.

Thought the intro article was spot-on, myself (editorial license regarding KWH and overstating its impact on the '99 split notwithstanding.) "Cheerful arrogance" is a fantastic description of DDY in his heyday. It's one of the things I liked most about him.

Actually, I agree with the "cheerful arrogance" part as well. Or, what I personally call his "inborn sense of self-confidence". Dennis is a good example of a guy who knows what he's got and appreciates having it. It's part of what makes him so effective. It's also part of what sometimes alienates people. But love him or hate him, I find myself agreeing with him in this interview more often than not, and I also really enjoyed the way he kinda takes Lisa to task at times, but in a good-natured way that makes it impossible for her to get angry about it. Like when he said, "There is, as Lisa Robinson well knows, a thing called an 'angle'", or when he talks about how you can rationalize anything, "so go ahead and rationalize". LOL. Funny stuff.

My son just heard part of the interview and said Dennis didn't actually sound old then. I thought the interview was great and was glad to hear it. Dennis has always been a great interview. Too bad he didn't teach JY how to do this years ago.

It came across (to me) like he was trying to talk about Styx as still being a band but, the interviewer seemed to be pushing the idea of Styx being separated.
To me, it seems kind of sad ...I mean, if that's the way the media was "pushing" them, what were they to do?

At that time the mindset of at least Dennis was that they were taking a break, but the band was still in existence, and I am sure he felt they would reunite down the road. He was right, except for one member.
