No, that would be having an opinion based on observation and speculation. (Y'know, like all these folks who are suddenly convinced that TS will be quitting Styx any day now.)

Wrong again - Dennis has never attempted to use the name Styx as the name of his solo act - SO, saying that Dennis would use the name Styx if he could legally use it is a lie (not an opinion).

Nope, still an opinion.

Sigh.

You are Carrie Ann DeYoung and I claim my $10.

I think Higgy's Matthew, personally.

And Higgy-He was billed and is still billed as "Dennis DeYoung and the Music of Styx". So, your stating that he doesn't use the Styx name in his promotion is bogus.

I haven't seen DeYoung live since the Grand Illusion 20th anniversary tour, but I've seen videos of his new deal. Dennis has been a dork since the Kilroy Tour. It's weird, he seemed pretty cool through the Paradise Theater tour, at least the US leg, but as soon as they got to Japan, he just got SO dorky and has seemed to hold onto that. I remember watching him during the Grand Illusion and Pieces of 8 tours thinking he was a great front guy. Now, I cannot stand to watch him. Even on the Return to Paradise DVD, he looks so completely out of step with the rest of the band. Just looks old and corny. I even saw a clip of him speaking on VH1 this weekend and it's the same creepy/dorky old guy vibe. I got the same vibe from watching Taylor Hicks on American Idol. DORK.

Dennis, you're a rock and roll God with one of the BEST voices to grace the planet. However, get some help with your stage presentation. PLEASE STOP air-guitaring. Looks ridiculous.

People - READ MY ORIGINAL FUCKING POST BEFORE YOU RESPOND TO IT!!!

Stabbim said that Dennis would call his solo act "Styx" if he legally could

to which I responded that legally, Dennis has never tried to call his act Styx only "the Voice of Styx" which got changed to the "Music of Styx".

I never said he didn't use the name Styx to promote his act - only that he never tried to masquerade as the band Styx - as Stabbim said he would do if he wasn't legally bared from doing it.

But go ahead and argue against what I didn't say.

And I thought I was Rajah (because, as we all know, the only people who like DDY are his family and Rajah)

I don't believe that is his claim. Higgy's position seems to be that because DDY has never (legally, publicly, as far as we know) attempted to appropriate the Styx name for himself (that is to say, just calling his act "Styx" flat-out, not "Music of Styx" or whatever) it means that he never would do so. And I feel differently about it. That's all.

Have to agree here. It's not like they're going to change it up every night or every other night. Dennis coming back or whatever would happen would mean a more diverse set list (meaning some ballads to break up the other tunes), but the shows you saw from 1978 - 1997 would be a VERY good indication of the show you would see.

As others have said, that is what was worked out as part of the settlement. His music was Styx music - but he's not calling his band Styx or something like Styx featuring Dennis DeYoung to differentiate himself. It's not misleading at all, really.

But it's clearly different from many years with the current lineup where they used DDY songs - including at times "Babe" and "The Best of Times" - in ads for shows with DDY's voice. That's misleading since we all know they not only don't do those songs (sans some early times with Gowan) but the voice who no longer is there is being used.

Point is, promotion will always be a grey area.

RE: DDY's stage presence, even if he wanted to, I wonder how he could change or improve it at this point in his career ? Seems unlikely he would start working with a dance coach on a new set of "moves". whats the alternative ? to stand still and just sing ? surely then he would be criticized for having a boring stage show with no visual appeal.

Maybe Roger Daltrey could provide pointers on spinning and throwing a microphone ,though I wouldnt want to be there if, when he had a bad day on that. Or Gene Simmons could teach him the tongue wagging and fire breathing things? And the spinning keyboard has already been done.

I am curious, and would like to know what and how the critics of DDY's stage presence would have him change ? ( 1st thing I would do is take away the air guitar !)

serious and not so serious replys will be accepted.

OK .
Get the old banks of keyboards out and flippin' use 'em.
He's got some great sounds. That would be appreciated.

Listen Dorks.

If Dennis is a dork what in the hell are we????

We have been arguing the same shit for close to ten years now.

If you go to Dennis website he has just posted some pretty cool clips of a recent rehersal. www.dennisdeyoung.com

As you can see he is going to start jumping off his piano. I hope he can nail the landing better than he did in this clip.

Finally, and I dont agree with Dennis for doing this but mixing up his routine by bringing out and introducing his pets I feel is a horrible idea.

Shit just about everything he has done in the past has turned to gold so I better not doubt this too damn much.

Good or bad, he has made Himself, JY, Tommy, Chuck, John, Glen, Todd , Larry & Ricky pretty damn rich with his past ideas.

This is one dork who is not judging these new ideas of his!!!

Where are the rehersal clips on his site? They're probably right in front of me, but I just can't seem to find them. They sound like a fun watch.

On another note, I hope Dennis adds more dates soon. He had yet to come to GA.

Right below Suzzanne's receips that Dennis loves you will find the link.

Its also right above the Roboto mask.

They are pretty cool.

I swear it looks like Dennis just about busts it coming off that White Baby Grand.

Enjoy!!!!

P.S. On that last rehersal link you can click on that is Dennis singing with Myley & Billy Ray Cyrus. My 8 year old daughter just confirmed that for me. That is a brilliant stroke, if that is who is singing the One Hundred Years From Now duet wit DDY.

For you old foggie dorks Myley is AKA Hannah Montana.

I'd have believed it if Dennis could climb on top of a piano. The walker keeps getting in his way.

I have only seen one picture of Froy but that sure as hell looks like him.

I am not trying to start something, but is that him? I will link it again. www.dennisdeyoung.com

It that is Froy, I was also wondering if that one of Dennis's dogs right next to Froy, or is that Froy's dog Chunks????

To be fair, I only went there once.....

I'm just a newbie to this site...

I thought it was a little odd for DeYoung to post something like that on his site (and the whole jumping off the piano thing), but hey, ya never know. Kudos to you Yogi, you had me going. I'll just have to be more careful next time.

That's all that matters then, right?

Current Styx and their fans are FAR too worried about being cool. Tommy and JY seem overly preoccupied with it.

I thought being a Rock Star was cool. I guess if you only stay in the studio and never perform live, you can be a geeky as you want to be. When you come out on stage in a pink blazer with short hair and no facial hair when your fans were used to a certain image, you can have some negative feed back. I think Dennis dances as well as Billy Squire, and we know what happened to him when he tried to dance on Video. Dennis should get back behind the keys and dazzle us with his voice and his playing, not his air guitar.
