I am one who would like every DDY song removed from the Current Styx setlist, foremost among them "Suite Madame Blue" because, my opinion, the band does not do justice to any of them, but that one in particular.
There are so many songs they could add to take the place of the ones they take out I feel a Current Styx audience would truly enjoy, that probably those songs would not be missed at all, except by a few diehards.

Personally, I think there are a lot of songs Larry could do "quiet well"![]()

On several of the Canadian dates last year, they did.

I actually like that part of the tune a lot. I think it's a cool switch. Always liked it.

Maybe they could throw in a snippet of Heavy metal Poisoning there instead.

stabbim: That whole song is a great distillation of the band's three-sided sound from that period.

Of course, the best place for the HMP riff is in a revival of "You Need Love."

SMB and Criminal Mind are near lock-ins in a Canadian set. The Styx version of Criminal Mind is pretty good.

Everything except for Lorelei.... let JY continue to butcher that one nightly.
sadie65 wrote:Oh for...this is so silly. The band will not lose some of the "signature songs". They do realize they are catering more and more to a nostalgia market. They may decide not to play some of the softer "poppier" tunes, but good heavens, let's be realistic here.
They're going to do what they're going to do. You either support it or you don't. But please, aim for some level of reality.
Bangs head into keyboard one more time. Sigh.

I can understand your feelings on this, and 7 or 8 years ago, I would have probably shared them. But I've heard them do the song sans DeYoung, and I have to admit, it's pretty damn good. His vocals do work with the song (not saying DDY's don't), unlike say, Babe or Best of Times, which I'd rather leave where they are.

Not to mention that there's more to that song (or, really, any song) than just the lead vocal. I saw them do SMB last year, and though Gowan's voice was a little inconsistent in the opening bit, the rest of his (and the band's) performance was fantastic.
