When Styx reforms

Postby froy » Fri Feb 08, 2008 10:22 am

I predict 2009 will be the year
The current cover band won't get anymore gigs and Dennis will be done with his solo cd tour

Question I have is

Will JY be part of it?

I say no way.

I see

Glen
Tommy
Dennis
Chuck and
Steve Smith as the new Styx

This would be a great Styx band if you ask me.

Until a promoter puts together a major tour package I don't see a reunion happening. I don't know if even having Dennis back in Styx can get a major tour in major venues. Basically IMO the Styx name is worn out in the eyes of the touring market.

Here we go again.. Didn't you say Styx was suppose to reform this past summer? What a crock!

What's with you and Steve Smith Froy? Todd could drum circles around this guy.. yes Steve is a great drummer, but what has he done since Trial By Fire?

Your right current Styx is a crock

What's with you and Steve Smith Froy? Todd could drum circles around this guy..

Todd is a budget drummer and pounder
Steve Smith is the best
Styx needs a good drummer not Kyle or Todd

yes Steve is a great drummer, but what has he done since Trial By Fire?

What has Perry done since TBF>

Smitty would bring new blood to Styx
That would be a great lineup

Go clean out your ears and put on Return to Paradise.. you can't tell me Todd's performance on that is one of a budget pounder. Get real.

You're just pissed that he sided with JY and Tommy and not your beloved Dennis.

Todd's a hell of a lot more then just a rock drummer..

Steve Smith might be a great session drummer, but live? Two completely different things!

Froy,

EVERYONE knows your reasons for booting JY and Gowan, but WHY would you give Todd the axe??

He is a GREAT GREAT GREAT drummer, and has pretty much said nothing but positive things in regards to your soulmate.

So why the Froy Size 4 boot????

Keep Todd & it sounds good. IMO, Glen was a GREAT alternative (not replacement) to Tommy & would be just as great an alternative to JY. Last Fall, JY only did "Miss America" . He's got way more than that to put out, so if he ain't gonna do it, let someone else in who will. "Love is the ritual" "All in a day's work" "World Tonight" are all awesome songs & Glen would do them.

I don't think Chuck is in any shape to do any form of touring, though......

Go check out the Houston JRNY 81 disc
Smitty is a far better drummer then Todd
The point is the lineup is much better when you see Steve Smith in and Todd out
Its time for a new look to Styx and Gowan Ricky JY and Todd need to go

Steve Smith will bring JRNY fans to the show and bottom line the guy blows away Todd
Just listen to You Tube Styx clips the guy is a pounder

Steve Smith is amazing live. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The ONLY drummer that comes close to him (in my opinion) is TODD. Todd's brilliant. The best ROCK drummer out there today.

Trading Todd for Steve Smith is like trading a Ferrari for a Lamborghini. The are both the best of the best of their profession.

Froy, you're usually out there but you're really nuts on this one. Todd is arguably one of the major reasons to go see Styx now ... and he's a nice guy to boot. Even Dennis likes him.

There's no question that Steve Smith is one of the world's greatest drummers both in jazz and rock, and there is Styx linkage (he played on Shaw Blades' first album), but no way in hell is he going to drum for Styx. And I don't think he'd do a better job than Todd (and I think Smitty is a better drummer).

Kenny Aranoff is the master

Yea I know you guys like Todd but he is just like Kyle two good guys and good drummers
Steve Smith would be a nice change to the new Styx
Glen would also be much better than JY

Tells ya just how bad current Styx is
If you go to see them for the drummer.

Nobody said he was not a nice guy

Froy,
BIG HOLES in your theory.
#1 - Glen can't cover JY's vocal or guitar parts
#2 - Chuck's health won't permit him to tour. Anyone who has seen a show with him lately can attest to that
#3 - They won't be able to use the name - JY owns it.
#4 - While Steve Smith is a very good drummer - Todd is much better. Ask any studio musician who they would rather have and I would bet 80% would choose Todd.
Other than those things - great idea. In the meantime - go take another hit off the hooka and relax.

Have to disagree with you here. Smitty has always been a well known studio drummer who can do anything. Todd's up there, but he's no Smitty and doesn't have his reputation.

Don't want him to JY sings like someone is grabbing his balls
If he has any

#2 - Chuck's health won't permit him to tour. Anyone who has seen a show with him lately can attest to that

Thats why Hank Horton will fill in.

#3 - They won't be able to use the name - JY owns it.

We can think of a new name
The Styx name is burned out anyway

So, let me get this straight, we don't like JY cause he "booted Dennis", we don't like Gowan cause he replaced Dennis, and now we want to boot Todd (who is the only one in my mind legitimatly "replacing" someone as John is gone", then we want to bring back Glen who was not an original member??? But we're still angry about the dillution of the band's lineup.. Is that right?? I just want to make sure I'm following this correctly. Remember, I'm fairly new and have to catch up on things... (with the board, not the band)

I fell bad that I'm leaving Ricky out of this whole equation as I think he's got a lot of talent, has some of the best hi-lights in rock n roll.. and he played with Jimmy Page so he's got to get points for that...
