Imagine if other musicians acted like JY

Postby Blue Falcon » Fri Feb 08, 2008 7:06 am

Just imagine:

Jimmy Page saying "All My Love" tore Led Zeppelin apart, because of Plant's cringe-inducing lyrics...

Timothy B. Schmidt saying "Hotel California" wiped out the Eagles early fanbase because of the overly-symbolic lyrics of Don Henley...

Gary Richrath whining that Kevin Cronin of REO was a tyrant, and adds "all tyrants must fall..."

Ringo Starr claiming that Ringo's All-Starr Band is "always the band I wanted to have..."

John MacVie saying that Fleetwood Mac sucked after the chicks were let into the band, and that the real Fleetwood Mac would have still had Peter Green in it...

Roger Waters saying Pink Floyd was nothing without him (never mind...he DID say that!)

Dusty Hill complaining that Eliminator was all electronic crap and that Billy Gibbons ruined ZZ Top's sound...

Brian Johnson announcing that AC/DC will not do any more Bon Scott tunes since he was their "former lead singer"...

Ian Gillan telling the crowd that they will not play Smoke On the Water because he hates Richie Blackmore with a passion...

Lars Ulrich saying that anything Cliff Burton performed on was complete cobblers...

Sounds pretty ludicrous right? Well, how does JY sound then when he is basically saying the same thing in current interviews...nine years after they gave DDY the boot, and 25 years since Kilroy??

Well, seeing how big bands like Genesis, Journey, Bad English, etc.... became in the 80's , I would have to agree with JY. Had Styx been allowed to be a rock band instead of a rock opera maybe they wouldn't have broken up? Maybe they would have continued to grow their fan base? Who knows? I do know , as a Styx fan, I took a lot more abuse after KWH. I think even DDY himself, admited this was a huge mistake.

You can't say that Styx would have been fine had they continued in the same manner after Po8 and, say, Cornerstone never happened. Yes and Genesis both became more 'pop oriented' in the late 70s/early 80s, and Styx was never hard rock like a Van Halen. Styx was very middle of the road in the grand scheme of things.

THen there's the strain that showed after Po8. There's a very real chance Styx could have ended - much like Yes who reformed in a different configuration with a new sound in 1983. So KWH still could have happened, if say, Styx decided to reform sans JY.

Genesis is a great example because you have fans who say that anything post-1975 is crap, or sometimes it's post-1978 (when they released "And Then There Were Three" with the single "Follow You, Follow Me").

Some fans just can't accept that bands change with the times. Hell, the Stones made disco records. I don't see many people chiding them now for that. But heaven forbid you get a KWH - which is actually a decent album, and very much of its time - and it's a cardinal sin. "Roboto" alienated some, but again, so did songs like "Follow You, Follow Me" or "Owner of a Lonely Heart" for those fanbases.

I think it's impossible to predict what would have happened.

I don't recall it being the song "Mr Roboto" that alienated styx fans, don't get me wrong at the time, it was the butt of few jokes. From what I remember, Styx "selling point" was the live show. They rocked like nobody's business. As a matter of fact I believe they were said to be the loudest rock band Db wise on the the planet. Yes, even louder than VH. Then came the Kilroy tour, in bad outfits and worse acting. This from what I recall is where it got ugly.
It used to be, before KWH, that friends who were not Styx fans would come out of a Styx show blown away.

It was the song Roboto for many "die hards" who felt it took Styx to a whole new level of suck beyond Babe. The tour was the capper for others.

Yet Roboto brought other new fans in ... so what's a band to do?

I am sick of this bad mouthing of JY.

I respect the hell out of JY. JY has done more, in a very understated way, to improve the world's carbon footprint. JY's respect for the environment and his use of solar power is commendable. He is also one hell of a rocker.

Froy, TS' was one piece of the puzzle that led to the breakup; it wasn't the only reason. BUT, from a "business" perspective, there's no denying that Roboto split the fan base, attracted some new ones, and confused others. It's well documented TS didn't want to do another conceptual album going back to the last tour dates in Japan for the PT tour.

TS' medicating didn't help tensions any.

I like Dennis, but you're WAY off base here.

By touring in a carbon-belching bus for 100-200 sparesly-attended shows every year?? JY also adds more carbon to the air just by opening his mouth to bash DDY every five minutes.

Didn't you come here about the same time as 3 other people who share your exact same opinions? hmmmmmm

Quite a few people on this list have met me, live and in person. Can any of your personalities say the same?

Just because they may have met you doesn't mean that you aren't making up the "personalities" they haven't met (including me!). In fact, your defensiveness about all issues always makes me think that you have some troll personalities. Are you Barbara?
Maybe you're BidforGreen!
Maybe you're the Nightbull!
Maybe you're JY!

That's right I am all of them, every single one. Except that, I don't bash DDY. See I for one am happy they are both touring. Styx doing 100+ shows a year, I get to catch a few. DDY doing his 30+ a year, I get to catch a couple and when Glen's with him it's a double bonus. I can't see how any TRUE Styx fan could not love that. Best of both worlds. My guess is that you are living some kind of miserable existence, where you need to create your own friends and have something to bitch about. I remember you going back to the chatroom days, always bitching.
By the way, I am 100% certain that more than the 3 people you mention agree with me in that having Styx on the road and DDY on the road is a good thing. Life is good!

I'm guessing you would have been the brunt of some sort of abuse regardless.

and your guess would be pretty much incorrect, thanks for playing

We'll never know... all we can confirm is you were the brunt of abuse.

Correct I was the brunt of abuse by non styx fans and former styx fans because if KWH. Hard for you to understand a complete sentence?

Styx was dorky long before Kilroy. I have a feeling Styx wasn't your only problem though.

You mean....I had multiple personalities too? :O oh no wait that's you.... please go on.

Oh thats right, I'm Rajah, Carrie Ann Deyoung, Froy, and everyone else who prefers DDY.

Since I have never been on a Styx "chatroom" in my life (sounds happening though!), I'm not sure which memory of me you have. Oh, it must have been when I was Rajah, right? Who, actually, are you accusing me of being? I can't keep up with who you think I am?
