That said, what do you all think of the new Luke CD? I think it's pretty damn good. A solid album all around, great playing from all involved..I like it alot better than the previous song-writer album 'Luke'. Some great moments with Stab in the Back, The Letting Go, the title cut, Ice Bound, and New World....Lyrically it's pretty cool to. Is Stab in the Back about his experience with 'Toto'? Haven't checked out the lyrics as their printed, but sounds pretty cool.
More thoughts later, if anyone's interested in discussing
cheers
ECT is right up there with his 1st release, Lukather (89 ? )
An awesome album...I totally LOVE the title track, the chorus is a killer, very much in the vein of Caught In The Balance, don' t ya think..?
The Letting Go sees Luke singing low, with beautiful acoustic guitar licks sprinkled all over, and the awesome 'Los Lobotomy-esque' mid section....pure brilliance ! This one's very reminiscent of Borrowed Time, from Candyman IMO..
I Am is a short ballad...nice synths, and kinda like a Simple Life Pt 2, haha.
Never Ending Night is one of the only songs on the album that's a radio friendly ballad format...and I don;t know about you guys, but I miss Luke's melodic solo's ala his ballads from early Toto and I was really expecting some in FIB, but it really had none...so this song's solo made me really happy ! This track coulda been straight out of The Seventh One !
And the album closes beautifully with the instrumental track The Truth...Both Steve's ( Porcaro & Lukather ) work their magic brilliantly here ! This one's currently my all time instrumental favourite !
And then you have the rockers, New World ( which sounds like a cut off FIB ), Ice Bound ( which is almost like Born Yesterday off Candyman ) and Stab in the Back ( which honestly sounds like Luke just dusted off an old Steely Dan demo and added his vocals and guitar parts to it ! Haha.
Cheers
