This naming bullshit pisses me off! I grew up with Fenway Park and The Boston Garden, and that's just how things were. This corporate branding of sporting venues is becoming nauseating! It's one thing to call some cookie cutter building in Los Angeles "The Staples Center", but to fuck with the name of Wrigley Field simply crosses the line!

I'll never call that place anything else. Kinda like the Summit in Houston that was renamed to Compaq Center and then a few years later it turned into a Church. YES...the place where Journey recorded the '81 DVD is now a fucking CHURCH. But, I'll always call it the Summit.
I AM actually suprised that Texas Stadium never got a corporate name attached to it like Qwest field in Seattle. With all the years the Cowboys have played there....I think it's kinda cool that it never has been renamed.

I'm sure that will all change with Jerry Jones' new billion dollar stadium that's being built in Texas. I'm sure it won't be long before it's called "Dell's Texas Stadium". You're probably right about Tx Stadium. After Cowboys Stadium is built...I'm sure some corporate office will take it over eventually.

I have been to a service there (at the former Summit). Very weird - the first thing I thought about was where I sat for the ROR show in '86. The second, was where I was sitting at a Whitesnake show in '87 when a guy used my lighter to light up a HUGE joint. LOL!

Jerry Jones is a financial 'god'. (Maybe he's not Trump. Don't even know if they've ever met. Can't imagine what it'd be like if they ever collaborated. Don't think they would. Egos?) I remember being a guest of a friend of a friend at a duck hunting camp in Stuttgart, AR. The phone rings and the host yells, "Jerry, it's Emmit." That was all it took to tell me that I was in DEEP company. We went on to raise thousands for the local economy...BFE Arkansas at its best.

Now then, I can't hardly imagine that the Cowboys' stadium will ever have a corporate name attached. I don't condemn all the parks that do, I just think that the "home of the Dallas Cowboys" will be just that, no matter who really is the $$$ behind it all. I couldn't disagree more. Jerry Jones has already been on record as saying he wants to see the salary cap in the NFL abolished. I don't care how much money the guy has. These guys can NEVER have enough money. If he is offered the right sum of money, you'll see a corporate name on that new stadium. From what I understand, he's already swindled a boatload of money out of taxpayers for the new stadium, so he's obviously not opposed to taking money from any place he can find it! Wrigley Field has FAR more history than Texas Stadium, and if Wrigley Field can be re-named, then ANY facility can fall victim to the loathsome corporate name!

I have to tell you Rick...I've met A LOT of Cowboys fans over the years, and have never met a single one of them I could stand being in a room with for 10 minutes! I could go to the stadium with you and watch the Patriots record...errrr, I mean whoop up on your Cowboys You're a level headed dude, who simply "gets it"! The Cowboys fans who understand just how truly embarrassing "America's Team" is have my respect. I heard a guy (a Boston guy) tell me the Patriots were the new "America's Team", on the heels of winning their first Super Bowl on the heels of 9/11, and I wanted to smack him. I would NEVER want any team I rooted for to be called such a ridiculous name, and for them to actually give themselves the idiotic name is beyond embarrassing!

I know some on this website have complained about "Red Sox Nation". While I am admittedly biased, I don't think it's anywhere near as bad. In fact, I've always taken it as the Red Sox are a team who have fans across the nation and sell out every visiting ballpark they visit. While I have no problem with anyone who hates the name, it still isn't a name that suggests, even remotely, that we think our team is the greatest team ever! In fact, "Red Sox Nation" has absolutely NOTHING to do with the team...It's about the fans!

The whole America's Team thing was just a marketing gimmick used in the '70's by Tex Schramm. It worked and worked well. The Cowboys were the most commercialized team in the '70's and early 80's. After all...they won more games in the 70's than any other team so it worked back then. But I agree that it's a rather goofy name to give yourself. If ever there WERE an "America's Team"...I would agree that it would be Green Bay. Community owned and aren't they the oldest team in the league?
But back to the original topic...I hope Cowboys Stadium doesn't turn into something like "Google Stadium" or something off the wall like that. In OTHER words...DON'T FUCK WITH THE NAME, JONES.
