I think Van Halen and Journey are the two greatest Melodic Rock bands, no matter how you cut it all up...

Nearly every band in the genre has been influenced by one, or the other, or both.... and from what I've seen the two bands share a TON of fans.

Both have a lot of solid albums, a wide range of different material, zillions of albums sold and popularity that will last well into the ages.

They're the two biggest influences on my personal musical style, neither one more than the other... My main instrument is the bass and my buddy calls my style "throb 'n' bop"... MA inspired the "throb" and Ross gave me the "bop"...

My style owes alot to both bands.

I knew I could count on you, Kate.

Anyway, I've been accused of Loon-acy on more than one occasion. I'm still waiting for that "new music"!!!
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night

I am looking forward to hearing new music from all around. Certainly from "one" in particular. I keep believing but I think cows flying will happen first.

I think that Journey has suffered from LSD for many years, while Van Halen has suffered from a dual diagnosis of LGD and LSD. These have been the sources of some major drama throughout the years.

Oh, for the non-musician/non-groupie folks on the forum:

LSD = Lead Singer Disease

LGD = Lead Guitarist Disease

I don't think it's a coincidence that Steve Perry was one of the most passionate singers in rock music, with Neal Schon being one of the most passionate guitarists in the business. When those two made music together, it epitomized the meaning of the word passion. That magical combination drew a lot of passionate fans into their following.

It's pretty hard to decide. As a Journey fan I am way more familiar (in a very detailed manner) with everything that Journey went through as a band and there sure was some nasty drama going on over the years. But maybe VH was/is a band with a more visible drama picture as seen from the outside (re-re-re-re-rehab,fights,even the recent events)...so from that point of view VH gets my vote.
Journey wins hands down for the hidden drama, tho.

As for the fanbase(s)...lol...Journey's should get a special award for the most drama filled fanbase of all times.

You mean people on this site. This site does not represent the totality of Van Halen fans or Journey fans.

There is a huge contingent of narcissistic Journey fans on this site, though…no doubt.

With all due respect, I think the main issue with VH has always been Edward.

lets fucking get real people. yes, you're going to have loony ass fans of anything that needs a fan base, Christ..it's called passion. Journey has been touring like fucking animals. Diamond Dave comes in and all of a sudden they are brothers again, and accounts for the most prolific returns of all, after 20 plus years..making this historical. Now, due to some shit that goes down back doors within the band, they cancel the show, and forever their seriousness. Maybe this is why Journey doesn't want to fuck around with Perry anymore. Too much to lose.

I don't know what happened, I just heard that they canceled right now. I'm pissed off because I had tickets in late March. Fuck does this suck my hairy testicles.

For a recovering boozeaholic being run into and out of a rehab in such a whirlwind fashion then being thrust right out onto the road for a mega tour had to be...challenging.

If it's a relapse, I'm frankly surprised it took this long.

the hearing issue's a different animal, but my fantasy hope would be that they pull the plug officially on the tour, Edward gets good and really dried out, and then goes to the less spotlit environment of 5150 with the band and creates the promised VH album.

Yeah, but at least most fans walking into a VH concert know who the hell is singing on a given night.

VH has had three different lead singers over the years, so it's not like they've been all that stable in that department, either, you know?

Tsk.
Details, details.

Why let them get in the way of a good Journey bash?

If you guys wanna get technical, Van Halen has had four lead singers... the name Mitch Malloy ring a bell?

At least Journey fans can walk into a show knowing that their lead guitarist will be able to sustain a solid performance.

Prairie Prince
George Tickner
Aynsley Dunbar
Robert Fleischman
Steve Perry
Steve Smith
Jonathan Cain
Randy Jackson
Mike Baird
Steve Augeri
Deen Castronovo
Jeff Scott Soto
Arnel Pineda

Van Halen:
Eddie Van Halen
Alex Van Halen
Michael Anthony
David Lee Roth
Sammy Hagar
Mitch Malloy
Gary Cherone
Wolfgang Van Halen

Larrie Londin was just a studio guy, right? I don't remember anything about Bob Glaub but I did add Cherone to that list.
