I'm forty-friggin-five as well. I'm here for a sliver of escape from the day to day stress of being a parent of three, running an organization, being married for 21 years to the same wife (not that that's a bad thing), having to listen to shit for music on the radio (especially when with the kids ... although I must say they are slowly converting to "my kind of music"), and the nausiating alternative choices in media.

I first started coming here because I just wanted to hear what's happening with the bands that got me through my childhood and young adult life. A huge music fan since a tot, they were important parts of my life and continue as a vehicle back to the "good ol' days".

I now come here mostly for pure entertainment value. Deano's rants are priceless. Many of the rest of the regulars provide some good ones too. Growing up watching As the World Turns with my grandma and later with my wife (during lunch in college), I guess this fills that void. Much better soap opera here by the way.

Interesting Henley quote. I actually play in a band on weekends, so I think he's right to some extent, but seriously- I cannot picture my parents at my age doing this stuff. I think a lot of people would liken it to Joe Dirt or something ("Def Leppard Rules!!!"). You know what I mean?

When I need to tend to family matters or do domestic duties, I do.
When I have time to cyber surf, I do.

Classic music is like classic literature. Timeless. You don't outgrow the classics. You savour them and enjoy their beauty even more when you listen to and read them over & over again.
Maybe we all DO live in the past, but there is nothing wrong in liking something which is so good.
And didn't you know? 45 is the new 35.


And while the Rolling Stones are still rocking, it's ok for us in our 40's to. While there is someone older than you doing it, it's ok.

She watches the movies too, but I made her a bunch of DVD's of old Elvis footage and concerts. She watches those on the anniversary of his death and his birthday. I bought her Clam Bake for Christmas one year too.

I just turned 49! My body's getting old but my brain is getting younger. I never tire of music. I must have my daily fix. I guess it's my addiction. And I will not mellow with age. I still listen to loud ass bands that my wife has outgrown. She can't take the loud stuff anymore, such as Judas Priest etc. Journey and Lifehouse is about her speed (which I also like). She absolutely can't get into the progressive stuff I listen to like Porcupine Tree, Threshold and other fine new acts. Her loss!

Priorities change as one goes through the different stages of life. As a little kid, I discovered rocknroll music through older siblings. Grew up listening to pop music from a little transistor radio. Hung out at record stores (I went to the 1st Tower Records grand opening in San Francisco with my brother (Columbus Avenue?), don't remember which year, either end of ‘60s or early ‘70s. Seems adulthood comes with mature reponsibilities and the fanaticism (?) for what's happening in the biz gets pushed back. But I did have it all: lps; singles; reel-to-reel; 8 tracks; cassettes.

I kind of stopped buying music by the time cd's became the vogue, so only had a handful in my music collection, until only a few years ago that I "discovered" Steve Perry and, then, Journey. That voice and their music touched a nerve, not unlike how I felt when I was led by the hand walking inside the theater to see the Beatles in A Hard Days Night almost exactly 40 years prior.

Today's high tech, free informational system, music downloads, fan messageboards, concert dvds, all make it easy to connect/reconnect with the musical landscape. Embarking now in the 2nd half century of my life, I feel I have come full circle.
