The two things on earth that get me the most angry are when adults harm children or people harm animals. I'd love to be face to face with people who do those things so I could give them a taste of their own medicine.

Now in defense of the parents in the drunk kid situation...

My hubby got drunk once when he was 4 years old too. His parents had a bar in their basement. They had friends over one Saturday night for a party, and some bottles were left out. My husband thought it would be fun to play bartender the next morning. Mom and Dad were upstairs in the kitchen, thinking the kids were just playing in the basement. My husband poured drinks for his brother and sister (6 and 2), but they didn't like them after 1 taste. My husband thought they were pretty tasty and drank all 3 drinks. Then he went upstairs to do other things. A little while later, he told his mom he wasn't feeling well and promptly fell down the stairs. Mom and Dad rushed him to the ER. Then they smelled alcohol on his breath. I think he had to be made to throw up or something. His parents were very embarassed, and my husband was in A LOT of trouble.

I don't know about all of you, but when I was growing up my parents did not lock up the alcohol. We just knew not to drink it. My husband was a bit different, I guess! And he only stuck metal objects into outlets TWICE as a child.

I had a guy run into my car on the freeway, and then try to drive off. When I got him pulled over (it was my charming smile) and got to his window, I smelled booze and went back to my car to await the CHP.
Come to find out guy was diabetic and near coma.
Apparently the whole sugar metabolites thing smells the same no matter where the body gets it's sugar from.
He still got a ticket for driving WHILE IMPAIRED.

Honestly...Who HASN'T been drunk when they were 4? My parents have a picture of me from when I was around 4 yrs old, drunk and pushing a Tonka dumptruck around the house with a green bowl over my head! They had a party at the house that night (They used to have HUGE parties back then), and I was going around the table getting "Sips". Nobody knew that others were giving me "sips" and before you know it...I was drunk! Made for a pretty damn funny picture!!! If I had it, I'd post it.

I use Listerine mouthwash and I can barely stand rinsing for 30 seconds. I couldn't imagine drinking it.

I didn't mean to make light of the drunk child situation, but I do think that we can't assume that it's necessarily bad parenting that is completely to blame. I have to admit that when my daughter was 4, there were times when I left the room when she was playing so I wasn't watching her every second. She knows where the liquor is in our house, and she could have easily gotten into it. Now if the child is getting into the liquor because mom or dad is passed out drunk on the floor, that's a completely different story.

I was only making light of the post! I definitely agree that ANY parent that lets their 4 year old child go to school after their sorry asses passed out needs to loose that child! My situation was a little different...my parents had no idea I was going back and forth to different family members for a sip. It doesn't take many sips for a child to get drunk either!

I was having this conversation recently with some of my actor friends. There should be some sort of test you have to pass to get a license to breed. Yeah right, if only.

In this situation, I willing to bet that the parents probably gave their child a bit too much cold medicine.
"Well if one capful is good for 4 hours why don't we just give her 3 so she'll be good all day?"

To some people these things are obvious;
If you have kids, keep the alcohol hidden and/or out of reach.
Don't bring your children to R rated movies because you couldn't (or didn't bother to) find a babysitter.
Don't curse at or in front of your children.
etc etc etc

And then some people don't see anything wrong with the above. *sigh*

Worst case scenario, the kids grow up being the same as those teenage girls who had no problem stealing cookie money from a little girl scout... okay so there are worse cases than that but you get the picture.
