I think Randy only played on After The Fall. I could be wrong though.

That would've been a great thing to have answered by HH, why / how did Randy come to be involved during the Frontier's sessions?

I love the darker chords used for this song, and I think it kicks ass! I think the darker chords work well with Perry's voice. I'm also a huge "Mother, Father" fan for the same reason. "Mother, Father" doesn't seem to go over too well for the casual listeners for some reason though. Oh well, their loss.

You know, you are right about the casual listener. I was one for the first month of my Journey "discovery". Didn't care for Mother Father (the only 1 on Escape) and any of the B side songs of Frontiers (the original B side). Now, I love all the songs on both records -- even Back Talk. It has swagger, attitude, and I like Smitty's drumming on it.

Annie...you had me right up until you said "Back-talk"!I can't STAND that song, and I thought it was a rediculous song to put on the album. They could have put ANY song on there but that one, and I would have liked it better. It just seemed so far removed from a Journey song.

Is that right? Are you sure about that, Deano? They never played Troubled Child in concert? I have quite a few Frontiers boots. I could have sworn I heard it played in at least one of them. Will have to check this out.

Liam wrote:Nope. Dean's right. That's the only one to have never been played live. Even Back Talk and Frontiers were...but not TC.

Blueskies wrote:There's a couple reason's, I see why Troubled Child wasn't played live...
First it's a very strenuous song to sing....the difficulty of the song and long held notes...takes a lot out of the singer, although I think Perry could have done it with no problem...so I think the reason is both acoustic and electric guitar are played...don't know if Neal played both parts in the studio, but figure he did....he couldn't do it on stage because the acoustic and electric guitar overlaps.....they would had to have brought on another guitarist just for this song.
Sorry, but as big of an ego Herbie has, he's no Neal or Perry...thats why he was a manager....and maybe bitter?Rick wrote:Blueskies wrote:There's a couple reason's, I see why Troubled Child wasn't played live...

Herbie admits to playing rhythm guitar, he could have done it.![]()
