He did hire him, but Perry came along and implemented the "scorched earth" policy before he went back into hiding.

I am not familiar with the "scortched earth" event. would you mind explaining? :)

Journey was going to go forward in '94 as a 6 man band...with Kevin Chalfant singing, Jon Cain and Gregg Rolie on keys, Neal on guitar, Ross on bass and Smitty on drums. Perry go wind of it and made the decision to contact Jon Cain and put them back together with him, sans Rolie and Chalfant.

There's also a version that says Sony coaxed Perry to bury the hatchet with the guys to sell a few records...

It's not too late. Dump Arnel, grab Rolie and Chalfant and hit the road. And be sure to play some Storm tunes.

How about just adding Rolie? You honestly think Neal wants to be the shortest guy in the band again? And you call yourself a Schon fan.

Thank you for clairifing that Jer.:)

If the end result was trial by fire, i can excuse Neal for not hiring Kevin Chalfant.

I can only hope that Arnel sounds better on the re-records than Chalfant. I am amazed to read the endless "Chalfant is God" gushings here, after listening to that cd. I truly don't get it, AT ALL! Heck, I played some tracks for my wife (who is a dope when it comes to music), and her response was "who the hell is that...that's not Journey"! That about sums it up!

Go find one of the cds from The Storm. Effectively Chalfant, Gregg Rolie, Ross Valory, and at one point Steve Smith doing Journey. Specifically, go find the Eye of the Storm cd, which was the 2nd cd--probably Chalfant's finest vocal moment.

I haven't heard Chalfant's cover cd simply because I don't care to hear anyone's cover cd. Find some of the youtube videos of Chalfant at the melodicrockfest last fall, and he sounds really good however.

Just so I'm clear...I never said the guy couldn't sing. I simply said that I was beyond stunned at the "gushing" that has gone on for this guy as a viable candidate to be Journey's lead singer. After listening to him sing Journey's music, it simply didn't work for me, AT ALL! I thought he was VERY, VERY average! I actually prefer Augeri's voice over his (even though Augeri had zero power).

I enjoy Kevin very much and just about everything he has put out. He does sound similar to Perry and I understand the comparison. However, I think his covers disc was a bad idea and only goes to show how important Neal, Jon, Gregg, Ross and the other fine musicians that have been with Journey are. He's a fine singer, but the music is not well done and it hurts his vocals and overall performance.

Moyes Lucas Jr, the drummer for the Strange Medicine band, said Sony held any further promotion of FTLOSM hostage pending Steve's participation in a reunion. As it turned out, they stopped promoting it anyway in favor of hyping the reunion and TBF.
