Journey's Box-set- Do you remember...

For those of you who own the Journey Box-set (Time-3), do you remember the feeling you had the first time you opened that thing? I was just remembering back...my wife bought me that thing for Christmas around 12 or 13 years ago. I remember being a pretty huge fan (at least I thought) at the time, and when I opened that thing up at Christmas and started to check out some of those tunes...........MAN what I'd give to have that feeling back again!!!

At the time, I only owned Journey GH along with Escape and maybe one other. To me, when I got that box-set it opened a whole new world to me! I'd never heard many of the songs and was exposed to different sides of the greatest rock band of our time (of all time in my opinion). The differences were HUGE between "Winds of March", "People", then moving on to "Raised On Radio" and "Troubled Child". I felt like a 5 year old kid in a candy store!

Since I owned so little Journey previously, there were probably 80 or 90 songs I'd never heard. Soon after the Box-set, I set out on a mission to own EVERY release that Journey has put out in the U.S. . I have accomplished that, as well as owning Germany's version of "Greatest hits", "Dream after Dream", Japan's version of "Arrival" and pretty much everything else Journey's released.....

All because of a "Times-3" box-set. Now if only there were MORE unreleased songs out there...

I'm also excited about the new album coming out! I know it's not going to please several die-hard Perry fan's in here, but to me.....It's just more new "Journey" songs I haven't heard! I'm just glad it's going to sound like the Journey I know and love.

Natural Thing and that AMAZING alt version of Feeling That Way.. neals solo takes off.. WOW!!

Not because I didn't enjoy all of the tunes and the track by track liner notes and all that, but because it contained something like 11 "previously unreleased" tracks. I was thinking to myself, "11 songs, that's like a whole new Journey album!
Well, it turned out that over the years, I had actually already aquired most of those tunes (though they were never officially released). In fact, the only new Perry sung tune on Time3 that I didn't already have was "Liberty". Great song no doubt, but I wanted more (just not more of the Jonathan Cain sung track, "All That Really Matters").

Was there a different version of Time-3, because Winds of March and Troubled Child were not on mine! But, I know what you are talking about. I bought that box-set in the early...early 90's (like 92.) Listening to La Razo Del Sol for the first time or Little Girl was quite stunning.

I'm with you on "All That Really Matters"...That song sucked serious ass. I didn't have any of the "unreleased" stuff though, so it was like butter to me! I really loved the two instrumentals too. It definitely opened my eyes.

i had a drunk uncle take me to go by the damn thing at camelot music in the mall the day it was released and i could be wrong but i think it was damn near 30 bucks and i didn't dare tell anyone in my family because they would've thought i was crazy for spending that much on something like that.i was around 18 years old if i remember correctly but i didn't have a car at the time.that boxset made a fan out of my girlfriend who had never really heard much journey stuff it being the grunge era and her being young and all.i was very excited about getting it and listened to it over and over on cassette at the time.i remember popping it in and of a lifetime comes on as my uncle barely misses getting hit by an 18 wheeler,lucky our lifetime didn't get wiped out,lol.shows the hell i went through to go get it at the time.i was finally glad to have natural thing on tape crystal clear instead of on some worn out 45 record.really loved reading the stories inside the booklet,it was worth the money at the time.

even though 'natural thing' was the b-side on the 45 of 'don't stop believen' off of escape i still don't see why they didn't put it on departure or maybe captured.its a very good song,i remember hearing it on a jukebox but looked all over for it on cassette not knowing it wasn't released on any album.

Sorry Greg, I saw that I missed your post... You're right, those songs were not in the set, I was just recalling hearing those songs for the first time...Not in the box-set. I really loved La Razo Del Sol too! Believe it or not, I think to me it was the highlight of the Steve A. dvd they recorded in Vegas. I know I'll stir shit up from even mentioning that dvd, but I thought it kicked ass! I also liked the big organ solo that Cain played, as we don't hear him on organ like we Rolie.

That DVD is what got me interested in Journey again. I think La Raza Del Sol is a cool number. Such a deviation from the norm. It is a throwback to their Santana days.

I remember about a month before it came out. I was walking in the mall with my girlfriend and we were going past Sam Goody's. They had Journey listed under upcoming new releases on the display board in the window. I almost ripped her arm off by pulling her into the store to find out what it was all about. Remember, this was pre-internet and the Force was only putting stuff out every 6 months or so. I was first bummed to find out it was a box set instead of a NEW release. But I eventually saw an ad for it in Rolling Stone and saw that a bunch of unreleased stuff was listed.

On the day it came out, I waited outside the store until it opened. They didn't even have them out of the crate yet and I was asking for it. I did the same thing with the Medicine and TBF CDs. The really cool thing was that on the day that Medicine and TBF came out, they were playing them over the store system.

BTW - I always referred to FTLOSM as the Medicine CD. Picked that up from my older cousin referring to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band album as the Pepper album.

Yes.
It was my brother's in early '92 when it came out. I was not then the freak that the boxset would turn me into, just felt like hearing Just The Same Way, WITS and SIL.

Got to reading the booklet (the '96 re release version is different incidentally), devoured it, fell in love with every song, got my brother sick of borrowing the boxset so he forked over for another copy of it for my birthday.

It's still the reason boxsets were invented.
