I don't know why, but this just screams extreme ego to me. No colaborating with the lead singer (who is the one who's going to sing the songs)? I think I understand a little better.................because I just can't see them handing the 11 over to JSS.........here, do what you're told, sing these. God bless him, I sure hope Arnel's got somebody looking out for his interests.

I don't think Jeff would have said a fucking thing. It would be just plain dumb to do so. These are senior members of a megaband. Jeff and/or Arnel don't have any sort of background to warrant altering the creative lyrical input. Perry? Absolutely. :)

Disagree, I'm a firm believer in the singer having a say in what he's going to sing. JSS....no song writing background? Are you friggin kidding me? :o

not writing any songs, and not altering any melodies are totally different. ANY singer is going to alter melodies and/or phrasing to fit their voice.

Anyways, I think it is probably safe to say that the majority of the songs were likely written while Journey did not have a singer. Hard to involve Arnel in writing a song when you don't even know about him.

Interesting read, thanks for posting! Seems like there should be some very good new music from what I'm hearing so far. So...does anyone know what a "sun shower" is???

The heartwarming sentiment offered by “Like a Sunshower” gives a more poetic and reflective look at relationships. It’s an uncharacteristic ballad from the more hard rock-inclined Schon.

Whoops, my fault. Reading Comprehension 101...

All I can say is they are lucky to have Heart /Cheap Trick. I need a vomit bucket next to the computer when I read some of the threads. Give it a year and see what they've really got. Wal-Mart may dilute true sales since many still think Perry is in Journey and they sekk cheap..

Sorry, that's not how I judge song writing ability...........on whether it makes radio or not. Some of my favorite singer/songwriters haven't had many, if any top 40 hits..........radio hits mean nothing to me.

AGREED! Radio play is NOT a factor in judging the quality (or lack thereof) of an artist.

Using Dan's criteria, Britney Spears, N*Sync, and Soulja Boi are all superior artists to Jeff Scott Soto.

Sunshower....It's not really a word..at least it isn't when put together in the dictionary..just 2 separate words combined..but I think it mean's...a cooling gentle summer rain coming down while the sun is shining....after which a rainbow appears. At least thats how it's used in REO's tune.. Roll With The Changes..

"I knew it had to happen
Felt the tables turnin
Got me through my darkest hour
I heard the thunder clappin
Felt the desert burnin
Until you poured on me
Like a sweet sunshower"

If Journey has a hit with it maybe the word will make it in the dictionary

Typical Journey press release since 1998. No mention of SP in sight. His HUGE contributions to the Journey sound always diminished or disregarded totally -- as if any singer can be inserted to to sing those songs -- Neal/Jon's songs.
"Core Journey songwriting team of Schon/Cain" (barf emoticon).

At least Arnel did mention Steve.

N Sync is for sure. Those guys are tremendously talented. While I like Britney, she is obviously a "fad" hand picked and syntheticly designed by a label. Not sure who the fuck Soulja Boi is. Never heard of him/them.

In all honesty, there is no reason to mention SP when talking about a NEW Journey album and or tour...he's not involved...

Now, if its a Bio or something then that's a whole other story...

Thanks man! I'm ecstatic to have my name appear on a Journey record, even if it isn't as singer...I can't wait to actually see it in writing, and I'm hoping the song made it onto the DVD as well. Shit, I'm hoping they get a top ten hit with it! :o

I bet you are! That is so awesome for you!

I've got a couple of minor writing credits...dUg Pinnick, Steve Brown (Trixter) & Dale Thompson (Bride) have recorded songs I helped write lyrics for...kinda cool. I'll never see a dime from it...but its cool to see it in print then hear them singing words I wrote at my computer.

Hi there Jeremey....just curious...have you received an advance copy of Revelation? If so, do you believe the new tracks are platinum worthy? Could Journey once again top the charts, in your opinion?

Thanks to all for the congrats. I haven't heard any of the material yet. The only version I've heard of Never Walk Away was my writing demo and then the YouTube stuff from Vegas, but it sounds like little, if anything, changed (even similar ad lib stuff on the outtro solo). I know Neal was sitting on several demos when we got together and I've heard about 3 or 4 of them in rough, instrumental versions, so if any of them ended up on the final record I'd probably recognize them. But I haven't heard anything yet. I'll buy the CD just like everyone else on June 3rd!

Shit, that's the most classic sounding Journey song they put out since Perry split the first time.

Besides, Frontiers does play Oh Sherrie, and that's enough from that album. Unless they would like to add She's Mine. I'll allow that.
