Herbie Goes Bananas?

Postby Saint John » Sat Apr 05, 2008 7:18 am

I get a call from my friend at 12:15 CDT and he's laughing about how "some guy on the radio is railing Journey." He goes on to say that "Neal Schon's old manager" was saying how Augeri had been lipping "forever" and he didn't know why they ever hired the guy in the first place. He went on to say that if he ever sees Steve Perry again "it would be too soon." Sounds familiar, eh? He also went on to say that he'd be willing to bet if the guys in the band saw Steve Perry and were able to get a hold of him that they'd probably beat the shit out of him.

While my friend could not confirm the name I think it's pretty obvious it was Herbie Herbert. This was broadcast at noon on The Loop...97.9 in Chicago. I'm trying to see if there's a "podcast" (whatever the fuck that is...my buddy said there might be one) because I HAVE to hear this for myself. I've said it before and I'll say these two things again: 1) Perry will never face these guys. How could he after all he's done? 2) Herbie is somehow still connected to Journey in some fashion...my guess is that he's a consultant. I think it's great that he's back in the fold (if in fact that is the case), and I think it's even greater that he's trying to persuade "Loondom" that there's a better chance of finding Steve Fosset alive than there is of Steve Perry ever singing live again.

PS They were "promoting" the show this summer with Heart and Cheap Trick when this happened.

oh saint john, saint john.....

face them after all he's done? he was 1/3 of the writing team, the vocal, and quite the front man during what we noe refer to as their "legacy sound!" he faced them at the hollywood walk of fame, silly. i have a great picture of neal looking at perry with an expression that screams admiration and longing

That was nothing more than civil decency in a public place at a happy event. As for what he did to them...he kept the band on the shelf for 12 years (86-98) when he had no intentions of touring with them, came back and toured with another (horrible) lineup, busted up the reformed Journey, and bailed out on a tour he never had any intentions of obligating. All the shit you listed is what you're supposed to do as a bandmate. :)

The only thing I wanna "touch" right now are some titties and a cold beer. Another almost 70 hour week after tomorrow is all said and done. Thankfully, I'll be arriving to work half lit Saturday morning...per usual. They'll get the hint that I hate working Saturdays one of these days. :D

So, are we to assume that Herbie held back in Andrew's interview? Does the radio interview prove that his feelings have actually "mellowed" much?

I've actually thought about this a lot and here are my thoughts. Herbie probably takes some solace in the fact that Journey is back in the rightful owner's possession...Neal Schon's (of those remaining, managing and performing). I would say that his anger was primarily due to the band being "shelved." Something he turned into a juggernaut was slowly and methodically run into the ground from 1984-1998. I would guess that Herbie's secondary anger was due in large part because he built something from the ground up into a megaband. A band that was innovative, incredibly successful and a wealth of unbelievable hand picked talent. He, along with others, put blood, sweat and tears into something they loved and believed in and it came to a screeching halt when one member decided he couldn't do it any longer. Though he did what he did better than anyone I have ever heard, there came a time when he needed to be honest with himself and with his bandmates, step down gracefully, and afford someone else the same opportunity he was afforded...the chance to work with some incredibly talented musicians. Instead, he went 0 for 4. :(

Hummm, are you sure about that?

Yes, they most definitely loved each other back in the day; but how about today? I would love to think that they still love each other.

But then, I'm not so sure.

Anyway, Neal was most definitely civil to Perry at the WOF.

So, who knows what tomorrow may bring? :)

Gary Busey does not belong in the likes of Journey
For with all the trials & tribulations
These men are good men
dedicated to the callings of there heart.
Please don't interject crude obsenity into the sanctity of Journey.

I can only imagine that moment
I was there
The feeling still well deep inside me
Carthartic to both of them especially Steve.
I am forever grateful that these events transpired!

Take it to the limit at the point where words fail...

I was about to say that Ross looks very happy, too; cracked up at the Gary Busey comparison... Dean, your post made me SAD! There is a picture of Neal hugging and giving SP a peck on the side of the head--really, really sweet moment... I hope someone posts it again...

These are a couple of pictures of Steve and Neal at the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. There were a considerable amount of pictures where Neal had his arm around Perry's neck, or at least a hand on his shoulder. Neal gave all the signs of being pleased to see Perry.
