As much as I love Styx, it just shows that it is indeed a time for a change of some kind.

... and that "Miss America" needs to be put on hiatus, as many other posters have noted.

Actually, this is pretty much how it was last night in Manchester too. Althoug Styx' and REO's sets were too short they were solid and well performed both in energy and volume. When Def Leppard came on stage they boosted the volume and kicked in additional bass and really lost control of the sound. Louder doesn't mean better. And I thought Joe Elliot's vocal was really mixed down in the mix to the point where you couldn't here him very well.

But When you refuse to play your best known songs, you are relegated to play B level hits and that is where Styx is now. A change in set list when you only get 7 songs or so is never going to happen.

While I agree that a big setlist change won't happen, I think "Midnight Ride" or "Half-Penny, Two-Peny" would be well received instead of "Miss America." In additon, their presentation (visuals, stage set up - doesn't have to be expensive, just different) and order of songs could be mixed up a bit.

Personally, I would love to see them add a reworked version of "Man of Miracles" to their set. No, it's not one of their more well known songs, but it could be a bit appealing to new and old fans (especially since they've been merchandising the artwork for YEARS now). Heck, it would kick "Everything All the Time"'s butt anyday!

When they started the intro music a bunch of the crew came out and took off the grills to the cabs and they became lighted cabs that changed colors. Todds drum set and the stairs have that swirly art deco background that is in the background of the Styx Bus picture.

Still not enough to take the show over the top.

I'm with you on grabbing a couple out of the Wooden Nickel era that had the rock style they are trying to put on the band now, but they need a two hour headlining show for that and they need to shorten the instrumental sections a bit to increase the number of songs. Problem with Miss Amerixa is that is probably JY's best known song and when he only sings one, which one do you think he is going to sing? Not that I agree with it, but it is what it ia and they are what they are.

That stage deco sounds interesting! Agreed, a solo (headline) show would be the place from the Wooden Nickel type stuff.

Now I really feel bad. Its like they are invisiable and there're praise more to Def and REO more. Don't care. The old Styx is better. Don'r start a fight with me. That's my opinion.

And yet another review...not so good.

http://www.projo.com/music/content/DEFR ... a.html?npc

Of the three bands on the bill, Styx has aged the most, with sentiments not going much deeper than “I’ve got to be free/ Free to face the life that’s ahead of me” (from “Come Sail Away”) and “Deep inside we’re all the same” (from “The Grand Illusion”). Their versions of “Blue Collar Man” and “Too Much Time on My Hands” were leaden and slow (as was “Renegade,” though less glaringly so). Original bassist Chuck Pannozzo made a couple of cameos, joining fellow originals Tommy Shaw and James Young.

Styx wouldn't even be able to headline my daughter's backyard birthday party at this point.
