Great interview! I really loved DDY's comparison between rock and plays/classical music in terms of the act's relation with the audience.

Gee. One of my favorite DDY concerts was at the "old and smelly" (and sold out) Beacon!

I thought what he had to say was, as usual, interesting and insightful. I liked what he said about the song choices that were made for the setlist and what songs he would have preferred to have been on it.

Here's the irony of all of this ... he's a casual Stones fan. Around like 6 minutes or so, he lists songs they didn't put in the movie that would have made it better. Apply that argument to any band, and there you have the divide between casual fans and the die hards. At least he put it in perspective in the stars he gave it.

The comment about just letting Jagger sing - not Keith - made me chuckle. His comments about Buddy Guy were interesting as well.

Also appreciated him taking the Styx breakup question in stride. "Well, I don't because I think that we did collectively our best work and it's there for people to hear and see and if they want to they can." Conspiracy theorists - have at it. LOL

i'm curious to know what songs actually made the cut. Prob not MY favs (Gimme Shelter, Monkey Man, Heartbreaker, Memory Motel, 2000 Light Years....) I saw the stones 2x during the steel wheels tour. we actually had around the 20th row floor seats at the carrier dome. it was very cool. but i have absolutely NO desire to see them anymore. (coincidentally, my lst u2 show was also at the dome- joshua tree tour) given the choice, i'd see u2 again. for some reason, the stones really irk me now.

all in all, i thought it was a great interview from dennis. (again with the white guys playing loud! a recurring theme with him) and i do like the answer he gave to the whole styx saga. Puts everything into perspective. i still enjoy going to shows, but there are plenty of opportunities to relive the "glory" years for those who need to.

Well, DDY is a very likable guy in that setting. Other than the moment he lost it a bit around the A&M sampler in my one interview, or when I told him he was flat (ha), he's very friendly. We all know what some people think of his behind-the-scenes work stuff, and I'm sure to some degree it's true. I've never worked with the man, but I know *I've* been like that in the studio with other folks at times. So I can relate. Sure, the standard jokes are a bit worn out, but that interview wasn't done in the hopes the die hards would disect it ("He did the old white guy bit again. Call 911!").

Personally, I think that comment is open to interpretation and was thought out. One interpretation is yours - pop on the LP/CD/tape and relive your memories. Another is going to see either Styx and/or DDY to get some of that. DDY's not a dumb guy. Even if it is Gowan doing "Lady", "Come Sail Away", and "Grand Illusion", it gets his songs in front of many people per year.

For me, I don't enjoy the Styx or DDY shows as much since I don't just want to hear the hits and only 1 or 2 nuggets for $50 - $100. That's something I'm willing to pay for every few years, but not every time they are even remotely close.

Coming from a person who is not a huge DDY supporter - I will say that the guy is pure class. Now - I have never had to work with him - so I don't know that side (although well documented to nauseum) - I will say that every interview I have seen from him - he carries himself very well.

Of course, admitting he's a casual fan - he might not realize the following:

1) Including the new "Shine A Light", the Stones have put out <B>six</B> live albums out since 1982. To contrast, they've only put out six <I>studio</I> albums in the same timeframe. All of those "classic" songs DDY talks about are already on many of those other live releases. Therefore, I'm very glad the new setlist had some rare cuts.

2) Was Dennis really not aware that the Stones <I>did</I> record "As Tears Go By"? They did a darn good job IMO. Yes, Marianne Faithful also did it, but I thought everyone who grew up in the sixties know the Stones recorded it as well.

3) It's too bad DDY "doesn't know" Far Away Eyes. That song is a hoot. Actually, the whole <I>Some Girls</I> album is a Must.
