Pretty interesting. Written by Conrad Stinnett, who has interviewed DDY for Goldmine before.

I hope all is well.

Another excellent article from Dennis. As a fan of the current Styx and Gowan, I still feel it's getting closer to when the original three will get back together for the last Hurrah.

Agreed, but I'd really like to get the chance to see Dennis solo before any reunion thing happens. I think I have more than enough time, if DDY will ever come to Georgia!

“I never wanted to not be in the band, and if were up to me, I’d still be in the band”

Two things. Dennis wants it to be clear that he did not leave the band.

Second, my opinion -- I reiterate that I hope he stays solo and a reunion never, ever happens. As he said in the WTTW piece, the catalog is out there for everyone to enjoy however they wish. "We did, collectively, our best work and it's there for people to hear and see and if they want to they can." It sounds like there he has accepted it is all in the past and that is how I would like for it to remain as well.

JY: "Our former keyboardist said the door is not only open, it's never been closed. My response to that is there was never a door in the first place. It's just a wall painted to look like a door, like in those Roadrunner cartoons."

I'll second that. He's the only obstacle preventing the classic Styx lineup from getting back together...as they SHOULD!

Hey Blue pigeon, do you really think Dennis wants to do 100+ shows a year?

Tickle Me Elmo,

If DDY rejoined the band, they wouldn't HAVE to do so many shows to begin with! The only reason they do so many shows now is because they are playing small events, and reuniting what is left of their classic lineup would put an end to that, I think. How many more years can Tommy take doing 100+ shows a year? They could do anywhere from 40-70 shows a year at bigger venues without DDY whining about it.

That maybe true for the first year, maybe two, as was the case with the 95 and 96 tours. Once the "Reunion" is over, they would still be viewed as a Nostalgia act and relegated to 2nd or 3rd Bill or have to make up additional shows to their schedule. This is the same thing that happened for BNW and a lot of people thought DDY "faked"or at least overplayed his illness, so as not to do so many dates for the tour.

You put too much faith in 1 man to be savior of the band. It's a short term solution, but in the longrun it solves nothing. It will just lead to more heartache and controversy. The true fans suffer.

Sorry Blue pigeon,
1) I don't really think DDY makes that big a difference in the eyes of the general fan.
2) that being said, Styx would still be at same level as now in terms of what venues they play.
3) Dennis probably wouldn't want to do more than 30 to 40 shows a year, isn't that about what he does now?
4) believe what you want, but Styx, tours as much as they do because they like being on the road, there other bands that are road dogs too. believe it or not there are still many musicians who like being on the road.

Why not let DDY enjoy doing what he does and let Styx continue to enjoy what they do, I bet, if we took an honest poll here we would see that most camps are happy now. We get to see Styx, we get some concerts from DDY and hopefully soon DDY will have a Broadway hit.

your joking about DDY difference, right ?

go watch the 1996 reunion dvd and watch the current styx. its no contest. the currect styx lineup is a joke.

I am not one of those DDY fans. I dont even follow what he does solo wise, although I sampled his latest cd and its very good. but styx without DDY is a joke.

Nope not joking, that was 11 and 12 years ago. And, remember I said, "in the eyes of the general fan."
Look, there are not many Styx life long fans that wouldn't want to see DDY in Styx. And, that is not a slight to LG.
My point is, as we see the glaring difference, for better and worse, the general fan doesn't.
Give Cyclorama another listen, sit back , relax, forget that it's a Styx record. It is some pretty good work.

I don't need to watch the DVD, I have gone to Styx shows since 1978, everytime they were in town or near my town. I know the difference between what was and what is.
I loved what was, but I love what is. I have had the chance to see Styx more in the last 9 years than I did from 1978 to 1991. And, I have gotten to see DDY almost every time he has been in my area ... not often enough.

Also, not to be a dead horse, I think a Styx show is closer to 1978/79 in terms of rocking than it was after Cornerstone came out.

Actually..quite the very opposite. It's the general fan who goes and expects to hear the hits..most of which were Dennis'

It the fanatic..the true follower of a band who doesn't seem to care who is the lead singer.

It seems as though there are some critics and a lot of fans who cant tell the difference between Gowan and DDY........

Im mean reviews that speak of "DeYoung sound alike Larence Gowan" ????

It's people like this who made the phrase "clinically tone deaf" come into existance
