lol...they could've used those "spades" to dig a hole and bury the money Neal lost with that directionless crap they recorded and pseudo-toured behind. The vast majority of people were there to see Neal...nothing/no one else. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

You're kidding yourself if you don't think JSS, Mendoza, and Donati don't all have dedicated followings of their own.

Your talk about SS as if they sank or swam based on the quality of their original music, giving little consideration to the fact that the odds were already astronomically stacked against them. No band of that genre is going to make a splash without a huge name attached to it. Even back when it was PlanetUS fronted by Hagar, the odds of mainstream success were slim. Those chances were dashed even further when the band didn't make the Spiderman soundtrack as hoped.
You think if the current Arnel lineup of Journey changed their name, they'd have a shot at radio play or even touring fairs? Of course not.

Dude, what is your issue with Soto. Let it GO.

If SS were playing to crowds of just 100 people, how do you explain your statement. The whole tour was badly promoted.

If you don't want to support the current version of the band, that is perfectly o.k. But, don't you dare hang that '86 to '96 dead period on Cain and Schon. Someone else was to blame for that...and the subsequent versions of the band as well.

I was not hanging it only on them. If I wanted to, however, that would be my choice. Really, I was trying to point out that regardless of how a person feels about any of the latest stuff - the period of "torture" from '86 to '96 was something we could all agree. That's all I'm going to say about this now.

In answer of another question raised earlier, TNC is right BOTH Schon and JSS confirmed (Jeff on this site) that Neal sunk 300 large out of his own pocket into getting Soul SirkUs off the ground and making World Play.

The conflict of interest charge was levied by JSS (and he can leap out of the weeds and blast me if I am wrong) and JSS' problem seemed to be the fact that Neal didn't use his pull w/ management to get the band a fair shake, just chiseled his considerable wallet open, hoped for the best (IE the tunes to stand on their own, which for an unestablished band we know in this day and age doesn't work) then when World Play got only limited airplay and no real US release, lost interest and refocused on Journey and cranking Generations out.

For that I sorta don't blame JSS as he seemed to know Soul SirkUs would always be ancillary to Journey, he just wanted more effort AFTER the album was done out of everybody else.

He thought the bands could coexist.

The show I saw was fantastic, did most of World Play, some Journey.

I can assure you that of the 200 or so people in Chicago that they were virtually all there to see Neal. Funny story, but Donati (and Tito can verify as he was with me) was doing his laundry across the street at the laundromat and had to say "excuse me" to get through the people waiting in line to get in. No one knew who the fuck he was. I've never heard anyone mention Mendoza in my life, and years later after Journey Jeff still can't tour on his own doing the bar circuit. Your argument is bullshit...plain and simple.

:?

Ya mean "perfectly put?"

Why in hell would, SHOULD they change their name?
They were Journey with JSS (and Augeri), they remain Journey it is their right, it is their prerogative to do so.

TNC, and AJM, I know you both believe in that philospohy as does SJ and that you were merely making points but dammit.

Had their chance at success been solely "based on the quality of their original music" they still would have been the same colossal failure. You keep deviating from the fact that the final product was uninspired vomit.

It wasn't a directive, it was an illustration that without the Journey namebrand, the band loses any leg up it has in the industry when it comes to airplay or notoriety. Effectively rendering them on equal footing with SoulSirkus or any rudderless band new to the scene.

Album reminds me very much of HSAS...I love it all the way through.
In fact, I think Neal outsourced most of his strongest hooks to SS and left Generations with the crumbs.

mendoza is a MONSTER player.. this guy is amazing.. musicians all over the world know of his skills.. and look up and want to learn his chops just to try to be in his league.. donati inspires people to play, JSS put vocals .. real singing vocals, on the map in his early days.. and still does...

Suprised you still have working Internet out there in Lubbock to throw down with, Larry; looked like really bad storms earlier...

Gotta give SJ credit for "uninspired vomit"; good phrase, even if he is completely wrongheaded about JSS...
