It would have been nice to have AATY sung in its entirety without the American Airlines plug by Ellen at the end.... :?

He's really made that song his own. I hope they do more of the new music at the shows. :)

Exceptional vocal performances by Arnel. As I've said before, this guy can flat out sing! If Journey was going to continue without Perry, this should have been the guy they hired, before Augeri!

I was wondering how you were going to distribute that big file. Excellent idea. I need to learn how to create the torrent like that. Thank you.

That last note of Seperate Ways comes straight from the greatest hits live cd, i.e. Perry. Perry could hit it though. I tend to liike Arnel better on the new than old stuff.

As far as them choosing new stuff over old stuff, in this world of hyper media they don't really have a say. Musicians got more and more pull coming out of the 70s, but it has been on the downward since and now they have no say whatsoever. Journey performed three songs and they aired 1.5 and that was it. Ellen's people made the decision. I'm sure Azoff and their people were pushing and pulling them to play the new stuff, and the Ellen team gave them half of what they wanted.

It's really a shame, but just so indicative of the environment we live in when people like Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Nicole Richie, and Perez Hilton are given tons of media attention when they truly have nothing to offer in terms of entertainment. The entertainment shows love this stuff because it is cheap and they aren't hurting in the ratings department. The only reason I didn't mention Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan is at least they were/are entertainers at one time.

Case in point, my favorite band is King's X. Paul Schaefer, band leader on The Late Show w/David Letterman, is also a huge fan of the band. His band plays one of King's X's songs on the show all the time. Sometimes nightly. He has been trying to get the show to book King's X since 1990 and it still has not happened. They want a specific product for that show or they will not have a musical guest at all. Then of course you can pay to play on that show, but the $$$ figures are staggering for that privledge. One artist paid six figures to play the show and Lettermen was so indifferent that he refused to talk to, interview, greet, or introduce the musical act that night.

I will now step down from my soap box.

Hopefully we can get a full version of After All These Years online soon.

I agree. SW, was nothing to brag about.
But, although I see no reason to try and compare him and SP, IMO that rendition of Faithfully was awesome!

Is this a fake?

Seems like it purports to be a bootleg of the audio from the taping that day, but I never heard they played this song.

I was rather impressed by the performance. Even though SW had troubles, he still pulled it off well. And this is still better exposure than they ever got with Augeri...and a better showing than that Early Show performance. I hope there are more appearances like this, but I doubt it. Unless Journey sees the positive feedback, reaction and they enjoyed it I think their promo work is almost done. After June 1st it will likely be just the tour. And that is sad because I think they could od wonders if they stick to it. Overall I thought it was great to see the band on TV (well, YouTube in my case, but still).

Yes there were some sour notes on Separate Ways..............BUT.....I'll take them over lip synched perfect notes any day.

If you hear bum notes you know it's live.

I like him on the new stuff better, & I too think they should have done new songs & maybe 1 of the classics (just for familiarity), instead of the other way around. AATY sounded great to me, wish it had been the whole song.

SW was just ok, & Faithfully was too, but I'd still rather hear Deen sing Faithfully, he sings it so beautifully.

Some of you peeps are way to frickin serious, touchy, etc, about this stuff. They fkin sounded "good enough". It was raw, live, and it showed. We Journey fans would have it no other way. ;)

I do like "raw, live" & for some reason when we saw them live in Vegas I thought he sounded better than on these clips, that's all. I don't have trained musician's ears, I listen to babies heartbeats for a living, so what do I know, but I like seeing the opinions of the musicians on this board.

Arnel sounds real good....some diction problems still ensue (most evident on the seperate ways youtube listed above)...but you can't have it all...unless you brought back perry from 1982.

Arnel's predecessor had trouble with high notes because he wasn't a high tenor. The previous predecessor didn't have the stamina to sing 6 nites a week.

So really, this just takes us back to 1997. We either have Journey with Arnel or no Journey. The *big* question that no one seems to dare ask themselves, is whether or not you can, as a fan, forgive the band for the bullshit they've levelled on you since ~2001.

I'm convinced that it's not whether or not Arnel is the right choice any more. He's no worse or better than the previous 2 'replacements'. I really believe that its anger towards the band for 8 years of bullshit heaped on the fans...and as a result, the fans that no longer have the stamina for the bullshit, lash out at Arnel. simple as that.

It's much easier simply listening to this and enjoying this (or not enjoying this) without being emotionally invested.

It shouldn't even be a comparison. The YOU TUBE quality and the TELEVISION quality is night and day, black and white. So much more is picked up on the Television than it is on you tube. It's only common sense. I've watched them both, and it just doesn't match up well from the you tube clips. I suggest watching the original broadcast from your own 'entertainment theater' for better viewing purposes. 8)

Right! I am going to stop seeding the version I put up later on this evening, so get it while you can... Perhaps others would be willing to seed for awhile? I've got my own downloads to work on, too!
